Look best, but talking a lot more $ for tires because 16" wheels. Which really sucks.

Trying to stay cheap.

For instance:

$180 a tire for what is on there now - BFG AT - 245/75/16 (30.5/9.6/16)
$150 a tire for BFG AT - 31/10.5/15

That is $120 less for a "bigger" tire.

Im a contrast guy, so keep them a bright metallic color. Silver seems to look best and retro at the same time.

Started to work in it, then said fuck it. Put it back together. Sending it over to Jeep West for them to take a look at everything. Get me a list of everything that needs done. Then decide what I will do myself and what I will pay them to do. Have too much going on starting next week and won't have a lot of time to work it myself as originally planned. Still have to finish the back yard patio I started as well.

So this thing ended up needing a ton of work so I sent it to a local trusted shop.

Needed:

Valve cover gasket
Rear main seal
Oil pan gasket Set
Exhaust manifold
Track bar
Tie rod end
Pitman arm
Both differentials serviced
Tires - ended up getting the new BFG KO2 - they look awesome
Timing chain - it was so loose they were able to pop off the old one with a screwdriver

So went to pick it up yesterday, got about 1/4 mile down the road and a loud metal on metal sound starting happening under the hood/floorboard (hard to tell where, wife was driving it but I was following her) and the CEL came on. Brought it back to the shop and the upstream O2 sensor was throwing a code.

They are going to take it back apart today and take a look at it.

In other news, I was talking to the owner/mechanic and he has someone looking to buy one in the condition and mileage that I have on it. He is willing to spend up to $8000 on one. The mechanic said in our area, for ones in worse condition than ours, you can even begin to touch one for under $4000.

Really debating on selling it. Problem is wife wants a beater with 4WD/AWD for winter. It would also come in handy for bad weather days to get to the gym for myself on days she doesn't need it. If we fix up the Jeep, then great, we have something, but we are not sure it is something we can trust to be reliable to get her to/from Salem (about a 60 mile one way drive) 2x a week come the winter.

If we do keep it, there are a few more modifications we will be doing. Getting a big front bumper (This one here) to mount the winch and putting a hitch on the back. Also might replace the shocks. It has good ones now, but they are super stiff.

Problem is we know this Jeep. Have had it for 11 years now. Getting something else used for $8k might end up being more or less reliable. No way to really know. That is why we are on the fence about selling it.

Get a Tahoe. Cheap, easy to fix, and run lots of miles. More comfy than that jeep as well.

I am all for a hoe or a full-size truck. Problem is the Mrs. Don't think that she will drive a full-size.

Has she ever drove a hoe? They turn great, they handle great and if shes never drove one I bet she will be surprised.

Another thing we were discussing it trying out the Jeep for this year. Her lease is up on the Kia next year. Maybe then we can look at leasing/buying something with AWD then unload the Jeep then. They keep going up in value. Even though we bought it 11 years ago, we can sell it for more than we paid for it.

I owned 2 full size chevy 1500 trucks - ext. cab - swb (so about same size as a hoe, just a little longer I think). She hated trying to drive those.

The XJ is actually really small and maneuverable.

I still want the Avalanche, but I doubt she will drive that too. That is Suburban size.

Blazers are pretty cheap and 4.6L are good. 4runners are always great off road vehicles.

But yeah, I would go with a truck after that.
