Re: Analysis Paralysis
I'm actually pretty surprised at the price of the Colorado Diesel given the V6 trucks with similar equipment are usually the same price.
I'm intrigued by the Fusion Sport especially given the price, just not sure it's sporty enough for me.
The 2011 F150 seems expensive given its year and if it has the 3.55 axle like I suspect it does its only rated to tow 8000lbs
The 2014 FX4 F150 seems like a better deal several years newer for only a bit more money.
I like the Golf R interior more than the Focus RS.
SS is still more than I want to spend.

Damn. I didn't know they stuffed the 6.2 in the regular 150. Thought it was a raptor/super duty only engine.
Still recommend the 5.0

Yeah the 6.2 gives it the max tow rating and makes it a beast, a gas guzzling beast.

The 6.2L trucks are rated to tow over 11,000lbs but the 5.0L trucks are only rated for 8,000lbs :d ontknow:

When would you need to tow that much? Like how often would you be like damn I cant tow this cause its over 8000 lbs.

I mean if he gets an enclosed trailer later that would put him close to 8k.

Yeah depending on the trailer it'd move me from about 5k to over 7k fast.

Re: Analysis Paralysis
Ive only really towed about 3000-3500lbs with mine and it seems to make it a bit more sluggish than Id like. It also really confused the transmission, forcing me to lock it out of 5th and 6th. Every time Ive needed to tow more than that my dad has offered to drive and use his Expedition. This then leads me to wonder why Im even shopping for trucks/suvs and sends me back to looking at SSs, Golf Rs, Fusion Sports, etc.
Re: Analysis Paralysis
Yeah I got a dumb 4r70w. Hard to confuse with it only has 4 gears. Yes you notice the weight but with tire pressure bumped up a bit and trailer brakes it did ok. Still no problems getting up to freeway speeds with ample time to spare.
If the suspension and sways are the same between the 6.2 and 5.0.... I'll take the coyote all day. It'll be a much better truck for the 97% of the time you're not towing and if you want to out pull a 6.2 throw a PD blower on it.

This seems very much like a case of the "I will never need it but oooohhhh look at those numbers!"
Re: Analysis Paralysis
The 5.0 and all the newer trucks you are looking at come with the very user friendly 6 speed. Ive towed several cars over I-80 with no problem. That engine /trans combo is surprisingly good.

[/quote]I'm not about to deny that. Having the 400+ hp would be fun and great on the occasions I needed it but mostly just bragging rights and more frequent fill ups. However part of why I keep coming back to the 6.2L is because if I go with the 5.0 I'm only increasing my official tow rating by about a 1000lbs.

Surprisingly the transmission in the F150 is basically the same as in my Explorer, just with much better transmission tuning.

Sounds like a path forward to me...
I think you get a fun vehicle (with some practicality) now, and if you have kids, in a few years when they are a bit older, get a truck or SUV to tow a trailer.

Also, from what I am reading, the 3.5L EcoBoost can tow up to 11,300lbs when properly equipped. So if you really wanted an F150, why not get the Turbo, instead of the 5.0?
