Won't happen. They need to stay in good standing with government (EPA, etc.).

How capable is something like an aem of running all the things the ecu connects with in these cases. I’m assuming multiple sub systems need something from the ecu. Or do they all have their own computers now days?

It might be possible to rig something up where the standalone ECU just controls fuel, ignition, and whatever else you want to override while the stock ECU(s) stay in place to run the rest of the car. Doesn't sound like fun though.

Fire a high level engineer and let him start up a "separate company."

I mixed and matched parts and software from Corvettes that were only two years apart, and I still have little bugs. Replacing the engine management with something aftermarket would be impossible.

Even if you somehow figure out an aftermarket solution, it wouldn't be a big step for GM to implement some sort of security in the rest of the car, so it'd reject the new engine management system much like a surgical patient rejecting a donated organ. Imagine getting all this working and then having the brake system refuse to release.

It's worth mentioning that GMs patent includes a way to provide crypto keys to authorized vendors while retaining the ability to revoke those keys. So tuning would still technically be possible. But if they ever turn that feature on, I suspect they'll limit it to actual off road uses like fully converted race cars.

I wish that said which engines it supports. The LT5 is the one that needs it most, but it's got a whole second fuel control module for the port injection system.

When I clicked on the shop by vehicle, the ZR1 was not even an option to choose (well not the newest one anyway). My guess is the Motec doesn't work with it for all the reasons previously stated in this thread.

I was thinking Lingenfelter and maybe Callaway.

It's more than big money. It's a big waste of money to go to those guys. Performance per dollar spent has to be about the worst around getting a car done through them.
