You can never be done with a house. Stuff will keep coming up. Lucky for you jeff and I will have gone through enough parts to have a "preferred way" of building these rigs.

Donor VIN for your tranny for future reference: JA4MT31P1VP019932
Transmission model: V5MT1-4-ADGL (or -AEGL) / M012S5-A005
Transmission part number: ME580818
Transfer case part number: MR336055 (part time 4WD, not Super Select)
Dual cone syncros on 1st and 2nd, single on 3-5. The service manual shows a dual-cone on 3, but the part numbers in ASA don't back that up.

Also, 50% off day is fun.

I thought I remember from way back in the day on the Montero forum that the -4 did have upgraded synchros as Jeff confirmed

Thanks Jeff. One can only hope that there are dual cones for 3rd. Either way 1 and 2 is a great improvement.

I would have to agree as well. The interior is quite nice and roomy. Handling is better than i expected, but you can notice it getting top heavy if you push it. Great power, great trans with multiple torque transferring modes and a hybrid LSD rear. After i tear this one apart I think I will be looking for one as a DD for my wife.

Progress! Motor is out of the Montero in the background. Also picked up a v6 MM wiring harness to splice in my missing leads last weekend.

No kidding. I wish mine looked half that good. I need to attack it with a rattle can until I can do something nicer.

Thanks guys. I guess i owe the credit to my father. He came and visited for Hot August Nights (big west coast car show) and waxed up a couple of my cars while I was at work. I was surprised at how well of a job he did.

Played with the Max over the weekend again. I picked up part of a 94 V6 MM wiring harness, so that I would have Oem wiring to run back to my existing wiring harness. As im sure you all could guess the 3s ecu has a couple more circuits than this sohc 72 carries.

The first circuit to update was the trashcan MAF with the 3s maf. Was able to direct swap into the harnesses for about 3/4's of the leads. The others were branched off of main feed lines, so i soldered and heat shrunk those.

Can say that the truck has improved throttle response and a noticeable increase in torque. I can actually pull in 3rd gear now. :)

My next obstacle is finding out what accessory plate I want to mount everything to. Then i can work on my electrical leads required to reach to each.

Good move - the "trashcan" MAFs suck big-time. Or rather, they don't suck. Whatever. ;-)

Agreed. Just sucks that actually used those. Burned about 2 hours messing with the swap, but Im at least glad there is a solution.

Trash can MAFs suck, but not accurately, or in sufficient volume

Yea, and talk about a let down. You would think that something that massive would really suck. Nope, it caves and takes up a large portion of the engine bay. Hell I can now see the front passenger side of my engine block.

I picked up a couple parts this weekend with the hopes of doing some work to it, but I got side tracked. Managed to pick up more accessory pullies, oil filter pickup, and some other odds and ends.

Did a quick visit to Lowes and found the perfect cabinets to my existing lowers. Spent the rest of my weekend building and installing. :/
