Finally said screw it and just finished it up last night. Still not cutting the rust out on the drivers rocker but did finish up the rest I had planned.

New axle snubber installed:



What was left of the hole I made after I cut out the rust and bent the back piece of sheet metal to cover as much as possible. You can see the wire harness in there - I believe for the taillight:



Again this is just a temporary fix. Just did this to keep dirt/water out until I can do a more permanent solution. Thinking eventually get a rear bumper that requires cutting off this section of the rear quarter panels and then at that time get someone to maybe weld in a proper piece of sheet metal in.

In the meantime I did this with a piece of galvanized sheet metal I found on sale at lowes. Think it is for duct work, but it works enough for this application. Got a 2' x 4' piece for $5. Cut out a piece of it and riveted it in and hammered/bent it into place. Looks like shit but I don't care. It is covered up and you can't see it anyway.



As you can see here started to put a little bit of sealant on:



Then painted it with engine enamel I had laying around. Was going to cover it in chassis saver or bed liner spray I had, but didn't think opening up the can of chassis saver was worth it for this small application and the bed liner spray kept stopping after 1 second of spray. Got fed up and just used the enamel. Designed for high temp and grease/oil so should hold up well enough here. Then added a bit more sealant around the edges.





Didn't take any pictures of the inside, but it pretty much looks the same. Lots of sealant and some paint. After it all 100% cures I will take a look and see if there are any gaps on the inside and add more sealant/rivets as needed. Probably tomorrow night or Thursday.

With the end cap back on you would never know this was under it all.

Spent a couple hours driving this around yesterday. Man I love it when it works.

That being said, I really should look into getting the a/c fixed. As long as 70s or cooler it is fine, but man, once in the 80s it sucks to drive. My ass has gotten used to the nice a/c in the Volt.

Still looking for some skids. Found a couple further out than I want to travel.

Or completely cut out the area when I finally put on a decent rear bumper.

Why not leave it the way it was until the permanent fix. Exposing fresh metal will only introduce even more rust growth.

Hole was leading up to some wires and stuff. Cut out all the rust. Painted it. Sealed it. Should not rust much.

I need to see if the a/c compressor is even working. Checked the pressure in the system and says it is good.

Mine kicks out when its really hot outside. Its like instant Sahara desert inside the cab.

Got tired of working on it. Dropped it off over at Jeep West the other day. Going to have them cut out the rest of the rust, weld in the new rails/rockers, and see if they can find me some skids.

Me too.

Really keep debating on doing some lockers, but don't really feel the need to spend that money yet. Once I get the skids to protect it the winch will pull me out of any place I might get stuck that the lockers would help. Plus lockers icy roads in winter make it a completely different beast.

I might have an extra locker/LSD for the front and rear. Let me know if you are interested. My setup is Dana 30 up front and Dana 44 rear.
