It’s at the father in laws.
Now need to plan out how to put in tie downs and a winch.

Re: Trailer
Weighsafe is having a sale currently...
Re: Trailer
Bought d rings, backing plate, winch, and straps. I wanted carrier bolts but after 3 places they were all grade 0. So inner coop kicked in and I will order those from mcmastercarr.

I’m really worried I will set up this trailer wrong.
Like I’m sure it will be fine but also worried I am not.
Putting the D hooks to the frame is next to impossible.

Re: Trailer
Imgur isn’t working well right now. Keeps telling me it failed to upload.
So the frame really is from the tongue and 3 bars and the. The outside. Their is flimsy metal bars that run across that are in the shape of C’s.
Now from the very front the first one is 16”. Okay. Not ideal but maybe. But the back the very last one is basically where the door sits. I can’t put the tie downs there. And the next metal bar is 22” in from the back.
The floor is 3/4’s thick. I don’t know if I try and bolt some bracing to bridge the subframe and then bolt to that or just use my bigger than needed backing plates. I’ve been told some people that their tie downs only had fender washers and was through the wood.
Then I get to reading. They talk about blocking the front tires, I never even thought about that and I should have.
Now I don’t know I should do what I was thinking but then also try and put a D ring in the tongue supports. Hell it’s 4 inches tall and 2 inches thick and boxed.
I’m just a little lost and need some direction. Just out of my element a little.

Tags for trailers are odd. Don’t need one if in the state of TN. Then if you are going out of state you need one but you can also get a perminate one the yearly registration would be more in 3yrs.

Re: Trailer
This is from the front to the first C section. 16 from front.

This is one of the main tongue frame parts

Same part but how thick it is.

Here is from the back, forward. Its 22 from the back to that next C section and I cant really get into that part of the doors wouldnt close.

Ive been reading a lot. Its all over the place. Need to connect to metal, dont need to, if you crash its not gonna matter anyways, if its over X amount do this or that.
My brain is fried. I need some suggestions.
Right now I dont know if Im going to go metal on the D rings.
Winch will go into the main frame.
Pull the car to where I want it, back it up, screw/nail down blocks, pull the car back up on those blocks tight. Secure down. Retighten winch if need be, check straps again if need be. Then I want to screw/nail some wood on the outside of the wheels so that it might not allow any sliding. Not that it would but I dont want might to be in my head.
Thoughts?

Re: Trailer
Frankly, the people who say if you crash it's not going to matter anyways are probably correct. Either the D-rings will pull out, or the straps will yank parts off the car if you hit hard enough.
Just drive safely and deliberately with a long gap between you and traffic ahead and you'll be fine.

Re: Trailer
Yeah to an extent but I still wouldn't tie down to plywood.
Re: Trailer
Cut a little hole in the plywood (from the bottom) and weld your D rings on the top of those cross bars, or ideally the side frame.
Have a pic of the inside?

Re: Trailer
I talked to a fireman who races cars. Has been for 25 years. Had multiple trailers. He said the plywood is fine as long as there is back plates. He said many trailers come like that from factory, he’s done it, and it’s fine.
I may not like it as it’s not ideal but it’s what I’m gonna do, along with a chalk up front and on both sides of tires so it can’t go side to side and will run some straps through that.

I will take plenty on Saturday when I go to outfit the whole thing. What worries me most is that I get one shot at this whole going to get a car thing.

You'll likely be fine. Just give yourself a lot of distance when following on the highway. Buy some wheel chocks as well.

Are there any that can bolt down? I feel like if they bolt down and they would work better.
