My dad routinely puts 200k on his vehicles, in Michigan. With just routine maintenance. And when he does sell them, they still are in great shape. The last few cars he's had have all been domestic cars too.

Its like regular check ups at the dentist. We all know we should go, but do we and every 6 months? Do we brush and floss 2-3 times a day. Yea, we say we do, but its a lie.

Same goes for cars. Keep up on maintenance and they last a long time.

I have a turbo subaru with over 200k lol. it happens, pretty much anything can make it over 200k. Also, west coast is right. I cant believe how many 80s toyota trucks and shit like that there are around here, i see them constantly and most of them are so clean it makes me sick. LA doesnt even have rust or anything like that and they are just so much more common here than back home.

It’s pushing close to double the stock whp. Turbo, injectors, intercooler, and clutch are the only real upgrades that make any difference.

It’s never had head gaskets? If it has, then the only thing that hasn’t had to be addressed is the bottom end of the engine. That’s NOT basic maintance. That’s basically a small engine rebuild because of new turbo. And no way those synchros make it another 200k.

You know more than I do about that BUT everything I’ve read says they need to be replaced st 100k. In fact this forum has said so as well. Soooo pretty much it was 15 owners before Ryan and he will have to do it again here soon unless done better than factory.

You're conflating things... Turbo Subarus don't have HG problems normally the NA 2.5 ones prior to 2010 on the other hand do. We said don't get a 2.5 turbo Subaru because they are known for other problems.

Yes. A timing kit is basic maintenance. The rest of that list is upgrades or "while you're in there" shit.

My exploder didn't need a cam or roller rockers. It didn't need headers. I did the cam because the timing cover was weeping at 190k miles. Headers because I wanted to.

I knew that’s why it wasn’t reliable though. Minus me not liking the vehicle the maintance was worth more than the car. Lol. I didn’t want to do it!!!! I’m not saying it couldn’t go farther but I would never say 500k.

But replacing that stuff is not maintenance it’s performance. It’s still replacing stuff.

This. This x100. There are a couple arguing with me here but they know vehicles are not designed to go 500k with basic maintenance. Lol. Heck after 200k you should be looking for a new vehicle and at 300k it’s deff not reliable. Someone can obviously keep one a live longer but everything is wearing out by then, shocks, bushings, seats, steering wheel, buttons, relays, brake lines, door seals, and everything else you can really think about. Just heat cycles, miles of use, and of course abuse.
