Hang on. If we list the differences between a first and second gen, it would read something like this.....

Different bumpers front & rear
Different drivetrain (18 to 25 spline case) (Late 1992)
Different engine internals (Late 1993)
Different skirts
Different Hood

There's enough there to justify a Generation change, I think.

Scotty
Fixed it for ya :p

Something that sometimes gets me is people rebadging a car. Sometimes it's funny other times I just think the driver is a moron. But I suppose I'm going to fall under the moron category because I plan on having a "Nismo Ralliart Mugen Mitsubishi 3000GTR Type R Twin Turbo" in the next year or so :D (The name is might change between now and than if I can find some other stickers/badges to put on the car as well ;) )

The Stealth went from 18 spline to 25 spline midway thru 1992. Is that the same for the 3000GT? I thought they changed in 1993.

Most annoying thing ever;
"Your transmission sucks, it breaks all the time."
My response;
"Let me drive your car then, lets see how quickly I trash that box."

No one ever lets me drive.

Although Mitsu let me test drive an Evo and I broke the shift fork on the test drive doing a 1-2 shift.... Ooops. Can't gorilla shift an evo like I can a 3s :P

The 98/99s are completely different from the 97s. The engine and tranny are still the same, but there are lots of other differences.

*ECUs are 3-rows and 4 plugs with a completely different code set.
*EVAP sollinoid was relocated to the passenger side of the intake plenium and as a result, the knock sensor & rear injector harness were relocated to where the CAS used to be on the 91/92 cars. The plug for the oil pressure sender harness was also relocated to the same place as the rear O2 sensor.
*Charcoal canister is about 50% larger meaning the coolant overflow bottle had to be moved to behind the front bumper as well as a modification to the passenger innercooler.
*Homelink was added and the dome light design was changed.
*Auto climate unit was updated with a much better display (lights up amber to match the rest of the interior) and simpler controls.
*Steering wheel horn buttons were eliminated and the entire airbag is now the horn like most cars.
*ABS sensors were updated and the harness that attaches them to the front struts were redisigned.
*Door pads are about 3x thicker and stick out on the door pannels.

I think there's more... Can't remember them all off the top of my head.

I sure hope you're joking, Scotty. :p

Mono - tha changes that you're talking about mostly happened in 97, and some of them even in 96. Any which way, those are all VERY SMALL changes compared to what an actual generation change in the automotive world is.

Greg is talking about a mid cycle enhancement in industry terms. It usually consists of a few cosmetic overhauls, and some minor mechanical changes.

In the case of the 4th gen Camaro and Firebird, they got a major mid cycle enhancement in 1998 when they got the LS1 engine and the new front ends.

Still, you don't see people calling those 5th gen cars, because it was still the same basic car as it was in 1993.

I can't stand to hear NOS in reference to nitrous, or even the brand. The brand is N O S WTF why is it so hard to figure out

the brand is n-o-s? like...the letters, not the makeshift word 'nos'?
I never knew that.

nitrous is lame either way.

Are you guys sure about the 25 spline shift in Nov? Cause my '92 was built in Oct. (according to the vin) and it has a 25-spline in it. I know for sure the previous owner didn't pay for a swap as well.
