I dont know if i shared this already, but the OEM Brembo brake pads have amazing grip, but the dust they produce is beyond excessive. Even in very mild driving they make a mess instantly. Well, i got tired of that. Bought some Powerstop Z26 carbon ceramic pads as they had great reviews within the forums. Im ok giving up a little bit of stopping power for longer pad life, longer rotor life, and minimal dust.

Time to get at it.



To my surprise its a very easy process. You don't even have to pull the calipers. Just pull the rear spring retainer, and pins. Then pry the old pads to compress the pistons and they drop out the back. Freaking genius design that takes less than half the time.

All back together and a quick cleanup.





Proceeded to take the car out to set the pads. They feel good and you can notice a difference in bite, but with some added foot pressure its not too much. Again, i want something more streetable and not race track ready at this point.

i dont envy having to replace those rotors.

Yea, i have no desire to swap them out if i dont need to. These carbon ceramics should help out a lot.

Isn't that a pretty normal process for opposed piston calipers? You only have to pull the caliper when you need to replace the rotors.

yep.


unless you have a bridged caliper or youre cadillac and you decide to just have a little extra material in there (but no bridging) so you gotta pull the caliper no matter what.

This is my first ownership of a set of Brembo brakes, so its all new to me. I was just pleasantly surprised at how efficient the process is. Honestly was dreading pulling the calipers just to bang them off everything and pinch lines. I wish more cars were like this.

Aren't 3S front brakes like this?

Okay. So I don’t care, but why isn’t anyone talking about new brake pads need to be with turned or fresh rotors? If I did something like this you all would be in this comment section telling me how I’m gonna wreck and kill people and how dare I not turn the rotors.

Like….I get it. The rotors don’t have grooves or beat down. But brake pads and rotors do make their own little grooves and paths. And so he’s not getting everything he could be. He’s getting plenty. I don’t blame him. More pointing out the double standard.

because its not needed? ive pad slapped many vehicles. you just need to be aware you wont have 100% braking performance for the first few hundred miles.

If you go out and bed the brakes in properly after a pad slap, it's not a problem.

Though generally I just replace everything at the same time personally. But when rotors are like $1200 a piece, you don't really do that.

How did I miss this? lol. Granted last time I did 3s brakes I was a noob back in the early days. I don’t think I did more than 1 set though.

Take a breath coop. Several reasons:

- Car has had a mild 4,000 miles put on it. Still very fresh rotors with no visible patterns or wear.
- each rotor is $1,200 so no way. Maybe if the set was $200.
- There is absolutely no reason to buy new rotors
- nobody died. Only lifted spirits
- I felt like this needed another reason… for no apparent reason.


PS. I’ve never given you a hard time about swapping out rotors anyways.
