The 15+ Outbacks do not seem to have that issue, but also why I recommend a CPO.
There's just not a lot of larger vehicles capable of actually averaging 20+mpg
I'd honestly probably go carmax over CPO. Better warranty it seems.
That being said, I'd be willing to go go lower MPG, but would need to go even lower in price.
Basically for what I pay now, plus insurance, electric, onstar, fuel, etc for the Volt I can go up to about $20k if it gets about 30 mpg average and stay within a monthly budget I would be OK with and that would make enough sense to give up the Volt for the other needs/wants.
At 20 mpg I wouldn't want to go much over $16k.
At 12-15 mpg it would need to be under $9k.

2013 Chevy Equinox we had got 27mpg on the highway, it had the V6. It was FWD, but if it was AWD I would suspect it would get 25 or so. Chevy Traverse has the same V6 and gets 25mpg highway with AWD. Our 2018 Explorer Sport gets 22mpg on the highway at 75mph (AWD 365hp V6TT).
Why not look at a used AWD Traverse? It's a crossover, but so are the Subarus :d ontknow:

Don't fit in Equinox. The traverse I sat in before had a dead pedal in a place that caused issues. Might be different in other years though.
Toyota Highlander Hybrid any good?

Get an Acura MDX with tech package. It should check off most of your boxes.

Don't fit in Honda/Acura.
Re: Actually, let's start over....
If you fit in an xj and like it like you do, you will fit in an MDX just fine

Already sat in one. Didn't fit. Leg room on every single Acura and Honda I sat in sucked. It was a MDX too.
And XJ is modified.

Re: Actually, let's start over....
I have a hard time believing that. I own both and the mdx is the most comfortable car seat I own. Knee room is almost equal but at least the mdx slides back plenty far enough already.

Believe it or not, it was on my list and I sat in it at Carmax. It was a 2016 and he XJ is more comfortable for me. The XJ has custom seat rails so goes back an extra 3"-4" and has custom seats out of a old grand Cherokee that sit lower than normal ones as well and my head rubs on the ceiling as I drive. Legs have just enough room to be comfortable with it all the way back.

I worked in sales at Carmax once upon a time and I know some guys that are buyers for them now.
long story short. buy a car there at your own risk.

I always tell people to treat them as they would any other used car. The only thing you really get from them is a little bigger safety net if something does go wrong immediately after purchasing than you do at a traditional dealership. This is especially true for states like CA with no "cooling off period."

Pretty much any review I have seen says their warranties are among the best out there compared to pretty much everything else other than a few CPO ones or of course factory warranties on new.

Go try one pre 2015.

Re: Actually, let's start over....
the thing is with Carmax's so-called "certified inspection" is they do a chit job inspecting cars. I've gone to take cars out on test drives and damn near ran into the gate because the car didn't have front brakes and I'm pretty sure "check the brakes" is on that list.
the service techs that do the inspections get paid on how many inspections they turn. run more cars through the checklist? get paid more. so things get missed or not done at all.
in my exp, the only goo thing about Carmax is their return policy. if you can find out that you got a total POS within 5 days/500mi you're safe.
dealerships are shady by nature. that's why I bought new. I knew I didn't have to worry about a damn thing for at least 3 years and even still some safety for 5.

Give me an honest reason why I should not get something like this? - https://www.carrsubaru.com/used/Subaru/ ... 012a8e.htm
Re: Actually, let's start over....
Reason
#1. You eat nothing but granolas and berries while vaping cotton candy.
#2. Your sexual orientation is under question.
#3. You buy 3 large dogs from a shelter and love them more than your family.
#4. Open toed shoes with socks become you main jam...or toe jam that is.

I said give me a reason NOT to.
#1 -
#2 - Only on Tuesdays
#3 - Already have 3 small dogs that I love more than my family...
#4 - I wear sandals 99% of the time already, and in winter just add socks... so don't see the problem here...

But seriously. Any real reason why I should avoid something like that?

Re: Actually, let's start over....
My wife loves her 2.5i with Eyesight, and I enjoy driving it too. It feels way more confident than what I'd expect a tall wagon to. I've cooked the tires on back roads more than once in it lol.
