Oh if you drive up to Detroit for the Dream Cruise, you’ll really only miss out on the scenic mountains.

Believe me, I know. I hate that drive.

In other news I think I fixed the checksum problem. My bench ECU isn't showing the fault code any more. I should be good to test on the car when it gets back.

I think in the meantime I'm going to try to cook up a speedometer correction for the Hummer using similar methods.

Yea, you're missing out on an excellent time.

While I wait to get my car back, I'm going to see if I can't clean up my splitter. If the light hits it at one angle, it looks ok. But from other angles you can barely see the weave at all. It's basically sand blasted.




It's also worn through on the lowest points on both sides.



I picked up this carbon kit from Amazon. Gonna see if I can patch the holes, then sand the whole thing down and do a basic rattle can clearcoat job on it.

If you can get spraymax 2k clear. It’s a bit pricey but it’s a two part clear coat, automotive grade finish. Has a little deal you press in the bottom to release the hardener.

I'll check that out.

I used it in my pc case a build or two ago and the finish came out unlike any other clear I’ve used. I was instantly sold on it lol

Car is back. It looks great. They got the bumper lined up better than the factory. Mediocre OEM panel fit is a known issue on these cars.

I got the splitter all patched up. I'm glad it's on a part of the car you'll never see. It'll just take practice, like any other craft. Now I just need to sand it down and get some of Ryan's fancy clearcoat.

Here's how things stand after a 320 grit dry sand followed by a 400 grit wet sand.



This thing is absolutely sand blasted. The pockmarks are into the weave. That's not really surprising given the car's history and how low this piece sits. I'll hit it with 600 next, and maybe one finer grit after that. Then it's on to clearcoat.

It's only a little worse than I thought. This is really just a learning experience anyway. If I wanted perfect, I'd buy a new one and get it PPF'd.
