I think it would be fine to leave the stripe off the roof and leave it on the back. It isn't that super visible anyway and you definitely want to keep the carbon visible.

I have to see it again in person. It's so subtle you can hardly tell.

I may just be overthinking it. We'll see.

I called the adjuster. He's got the damage claim approved. He's just waiting on release of payment. Hopefully Monday.

Bricking your car with a DIY engine reflash.

I just wanted to change two bytes to disable the skip shift function. I had it all figured out. But there were some checksums I wasn't aware of. It programmed successfully, but then it wouldn't start. It had a code for flash memory error.

Flashing it back to stock fixed it. The only real damage was to the smoldering remains of my ego.

Anyway, I got the splitter off so I can try to fix the clearcoat and some other damage. The car looks weird with out it. I'm kind of pissed at the ProTekt splitter protector I bought too. Two of the mounting holes busted right out of it, and two more are really close. I'm sure I can fix it. It's just annoying to even have to think about it. It's not that old, and it wasn't cheap.

Well at least it was recoverable!

Yeah at least you didn't fully brick it where you had to get a new computer. I did that once in the early days of the flash ECU stuff, and that feeling is just absolutely terrible.

I did that to my bmw once trying to install a trans tune. It was at like 2am and I had work the next day. The next couple hours were frantic till I fixed it.

My actual job for 3 years was troubleshooting GM programming for their dealership Techline. Most of their "dead" ECUs were technicians who did something stupid, and then were too impatient to troubleshoot it properly. So they just billed the customer for a new one. Most of the dead parts GM got back were recoverable. Their parts from 1999-ish onward are pretty robust. So I knew what happened and how to fix it. Despite all that, there was still an 'oh shit' moment. I'm going to do a lot more testing on my bench PCM before I try it again.

Here's what happened to mine.





I just don't get it. It's only attached to the splitter. So even if the splitter somehow got pushed down, the skid plate should move with it. Same with pushing up from below. One mount ripped out on each side, and I've got a couple more that are ready to go. It's all cut from one piece of cutting board style plastic, so it's not like there was glue that failed or something.

I'll try to reinforce it and even out the attaching areas before I put the whole thing back on the car. I made a paper template of it before I put it on the first time, so I can even try making a whole new one out of something else. I think there's a kind of plastic called Delrin that would be really good for this.

That seems like a really think mounting point? I bet vibrations would wear that out being so thin, especially if it gets hot.

Delrin is good, and can be made super heat resistant too.

I really needed that link as I could not figure out where these go. It’s like a skid plate for the underdam. That cheap and easy to replace. Except it breaks. Interesting.

It's not my insurance. It's a very large, well known commercial HVAC company that wants this to go away quickly and quietly.

Right, it's called damage control, literally and figuratively.

As someone who works for a HVAC company with a lot of drivers out there - the driver is also in hot water hah.

I don't doubt it.

I also wonder if that board hit anyone else after it bounced off my car.

I was so caught up in what happened to me that I didn't look in my mirrors to see what happened next.
