I use mine even when i'm alone in the truck

Frequently, when i'm out for the day, i take my water, tea, and then grab lunch and have a cup from that too.

I have a broken Super Duty cupholder on my eBay watch list. If it gets cheap enough, I might buy it just for fun. I can swap over parts from one of my other bezels to fix it. Then I can have all the drinks!

With all Jeff's done to his truck so far, he very well could just put the 36 gallon tank on it Based on how he's done so far finding parts, he'll probably find a whole unit for $75 10 miles from his house

I know it bolts into many cab configurations even if ford didn't offer it and its also pretty easy to update the systems via forscan to tell the truck it has the 36 gallon tank.

I think I saw somewhere that it doesn't fit the 122" wheelbase trucks. I could be wrong though.

My console trim is kinda blotchy anyway. Like someone used the wrong kind of cleaner or something. It's chipped in a few places too. Since I was already planning to repaint all this stuff satin black, why not buy the absolute cheapest ones on eBay?

To be fair, it's a decent rattle can job. The amount of flake is very nice and the finish isn't half bad.

I backtracked the VIN. The outside was dark metallic gray. They did the badges in the same color.

I've got the $50 switch. Now I just need the other couple thousand dollars in parts.

I haven't heard of this TOD thing. Apparently I could make this thing AWD?

Yeah it's basically on demand AWD. My truck has it and it's pretty awesome. Borg Warner had a very simplistic version going all the way back to the 2nd gen explorer. It's been obviously refined a lot since then. In my truck it is almost entirely unnoticeable. There's just a hint more driveline vibration.

I can't even imagine what I'd need to change as far as stability and traction control software. That might be too far even for me. Messing around with safety systems makes me nervous.

Today was pretty productive. Lots of sanding.



The results are good enough for now. I should have spent some more time with the finer grit, but I was in a little bit of a hurry. Kryolon Fusion Satin Black is damned close to the original trim from my base spec XL.



4 bolts for each primary seat, and 5 for the jump seat. A few of the main seat bolts were kinda stubborn. Those were the ones that passed all the way through to the bottom of the truck. I chased the threads with a tap. I know it's not recommended, but I think I'm going to put some anti-seize on them when I put them back in. I also need to figure out a way to cleanly delete the center seat belt.



I got the console set in place. I need to rearrange some of the cables behind the dash and finish the trim pieces before I bolt everything down. But it should go pretty quick tomorrow.



This should be a massive improvement for the road trip I have to take it on soon.

I learned a few interesting things while I had everything apart. In my Sync thread, I mentioned how they leave certain wires out of the harnesses depending on how the truck is optioned. This leads to them having a ton of unique part numbers.

My truck's dash harness is wired out for a center dash speaker, which I do not have. As well as rear speakers, which I definitely do not have. It has a trailer brake controller plug attached to the back of an empty storage bin that's barely big enough for a stick of gum. (Below the 4WD knob). It also has a connector for the 110v AC port that's optional on the dash, even though there's a ton of other stuff necessary to make that work. There's an empty two pin connector that might be for the auto climate control system. I'm not sure on that one yet. There's also a loopback for some unused CAN bus stuff that was optional on other models. That'll at least save me some headache when I swap the dash harness for the Sync3 install.

But they just couldn't add a few wires for the console bin lights or the power points. I'm gonna have to figure those out myself.

It's crazy they leave all that there but then pull the wires. The trailer brake controller is just the little box, the brains are part of the BCM and TCS modules. They're all there and the programming is there just need to be turned on via Forscan. The amount they charge for the little box with the slider is goofy though.

If it were me designing the trailer brake controller for example, I'd have made it as a harness kit. One end to plug into the slider module and the other end with bare terminals you'd have to insert into the back of an existing BCM connector. You'd save the expense of the connector and the wires. It'd be more work for the customer, but since when have they cared about that?

The big one I was disappointed about was the heated seat fuse terminal. It's a foot or so of wire with a terminal on each end. It goes between the fuse box and the body harness junction. I can add it, but it's going to be a lot of work to get access to that space.
