Back on topic a bit.
I don't know how long the factory cats would last behind a SC. If they are not going to last I might as well do long tubes.
That's what I'm trying to figure out more than anything

Fun fact. At the end of that video he burned the jacket and the shoes. One of the keys to the car was in the pocket when he did it.
Thats funny. Think he put in a claim with his AARP insurance?

As long as itβs tuned properly, adding a supercharge should not affect the life of the factory cats I would not think.

He did that all in satire for his channel Obsessed Garage.

Tuner in California says cats last 6 months - 2 years on average if factory cats/manifolds.

Rockauto oe design run 380 each. Figure that could be 760 every 2 years on average. Lts are about $2k on sale for decent ones.
Lts are also worth about 40 rwhp.
Something to think about.

Do they put pops and burbles in it or something? Or run it stupid lean so EGTs are stupid high?

Not really sure but it seems the stock ls3 heads/cats don't last but the Z06 ones do? Lot from both sides on the vette forum. Even high flow cats melt according to more than a few posters. I am guessing just not designed to handle the s/c? I think it might be a heat issue. People are saying "melted" cats.

Doing more digging, the Z06 (LS7) heads and cats do hold up better than the stock LS3. Biggest issue would be matching up piping. Mine currently has 2.5" cat back but the Z06 runs a 3" cat back. Would need to modify the x pipe to axle back.

I could run factory LS3 until they fry/melt, then swap to the LS7s. Close enough to the same price probably.

$750
I think I might end up going this route. Going to keep looking though. See what deals I can find.

Tempting.
So I have someone over near Seattle willing to sell me madifolds, cats, and mid-pipe off their Z06 for $300...
Just need to find the time to get over there and avoid the weather before they sell it since they are not holding it for me.

Research is showing that the Z06 exhaust on the 08 makes it a little different. 05-07, one type of exhaust. 08-13 another type, but in 09 they changed exhaust angles. So have to find the right h-pipe from the right year to make it work and certain year manifold/cats might not work either. Still looking at that.
Seriously keep looking at just getting long tubes. Can get a non-catted high end version, brand new, for $1700 after talking to a vendor. Really tempting. Or a catted version for $2k.

Huh, I would've guessed Washington would have.
How big of a sound difference is there catted vs. not? I know on like early Vipers, they sound way better catted then uncatted.
