Yea, but who wants to do that lol. Especially with a looming depression potentially on the horizon.

I think I need to be done being a mechanic on newer stuff or at least the wife’s vehicle.

Image
Messy garage but you can tell I have parts everywhere to change this condenser.

Image
Ohhhhh r1234yf. I had everything for r134a. But nooooo let’s change it. All connectors are different. So I spent extra money to get a full kit instead of the adapters that would have saved me…ready for it…10 bucks. So 210 gauge set and I couldn’t get it connected to the vacuum pump. Talk about one pissed off me. Spent 2 hours to try and make an adapter with no luck. Only to finally give up and just put the Tahoe back together.

Image
Only to find this on the ground after wrestling with the radiator to sit correctly. Freaking out about where it must go and just giving up as well.

As I was cleaning up from this all day failed condenser instal I found a small bag with the fitting it needed to hook to the vacuum pump but when I did I got this.
https://youtu.be/z7HVJYyh6gU

I went to bed at midnight just happy I got the vacuum pump hooked up and would get new o-rings in the morning.

This morning I took the connection apart because I wanted the correct size o-ring when we went to get our grocery order. Only to find where that washer went!!!

Put it in
Image

Holding vacuum perfectly. After shutting off the gauges and pump.

So today after we get back I get to put this thing back together and hopefully charge it up.

Also chevy should be ashamed. These should last 150k easy
Image

Also I tried to do the spark plugs. I couldn’t get the damn boots off. I did it on my avalanche. Same dang set up. But these. These weren’t budging. So I’m gonna take it somewhere for it. That and these all day fails. I honestly just walked around feeling like a failure. Even when I finish this I will feel like I failed on it as it just shouldn’t have been this hard.

I wonder if that one hose isn't just crusty adhesive from the plastic fitting?

Have you seen these for the spark plug boots?

There's a few different variations on the idea, so you can probably find something that would work for you.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

But I wouldn’t be able to get them strait on. The pliers would be better.

Lisle makes awesome tools for very specific things like that.

I tried to find the guy who tells you who makes snap on or Mac tools do one on these but I don’t think he has yet. I would rather get a whole set.

And a temp sensor failed on it. Radiator temp at 0, radiator fans at full blast. Recommended to replace tstat while doing it. So guess I get to do that tomorrow.

What was suppose to be simple:
Image
Here it is, thermostat and sensor.

Image
Apart. Everything went smooth and I was in for about a 45 mins job.

Image

Together. Woot. Done!

Nope.

Same code for sensor. Okay, take apart again. Check the connector. It’s wiggled weird so let’s try again. Together…start….nope. Okay apart again. Take apart, connectors looks good. Sensor looks good. Back together….nope

Well crap. What am I missing. Call up napa, is this the correct sensor. Yep. Damnit. So I get to looking.

Image
Old factory. Notice how the pins are next to each other.

Image
Not on new one. Damnit.

Go back to napa, get the correct one. Put it on. Issue fixed.

A 45 min job got turned into a 3 hour job. Thanks napa.
