The base models are torquey, not a lot of power though. Hans and I daily drive his 97 base model, and honestly, we love it. haha

Gas mileage is good enough, not fantastic, but it's also an 11 year old fairly heavy car, with that dinky engine. It serves it's purpose. I would NOT pay that much for a 97 SOHC. You'll find better deals on craigslist.

If you want to spend around 6k, my buddy's dealership has a 99 SOHC, black on tan, just over 100k. I don't know the exact details on the car, but I can find out if you want. They're in NY, so it's probably closer to you in VA than Wisconsin :D

For that price though, I'd pass. It's too much for a SOHC, you can almost buy a 97 SL for that much money now.

And in all honesty, I don't know why everyone hates on the SOHC. They're the most reliable (stealthee, you don't count, you modify yours!!), and are quick enough to commute with. We've had SOHC's with 200k+ and run AWESOME. Just maintain it.

For 6K I'd sell her mine. A whole lot faster than that one, too. :p

I love my base model. Damn thing is reliable as hell. I have the best oil pressure that I've ever had on any 3/s car I've owned (and I've owned a TON of them). I recently had a water pump go bad on it and I fixed it, but the tensioner pulley went bad on me right afterwards. Total to fix it all... $100 plus my time for a new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner pulley. It even jumped timing when the pulley went bad and I just slapped on another belt and it was good to go.

I don't find it to be as much of a slouch as many other people do. Most people that say it's slow as hell are the people that have never owned or driven one. I won't say it's fast, but it's peppy.

I can get 600 miles to a tank of gas if I highway drive it (30 mpg). Parts are super cheap and it's easy to work on. I would get one for the right price. I got my 97 for $660 and it needed a bunch of work, but it cost me nothing but time to put it together.
First to 184 million

5-speed??

I got about the same mileage in the SOHC as the DOHC (both 5-speeds) but people seem to forget the SOHC runs on regular gas too... Granted you're really only saving $5-10 per tank, but still...

6k? That's a crime. :sulk:

Whenever you use forceful and overt verbal persuasion to try to convince others to see things your way, they're probably not listening to what you say, Instead they're looking for every error in you your logic and mistakes in your facts, all the while constructing counterarguments. Worse still, they don't merely believe you're wrong; they need you to be wrong in order to protect the status quo. Sadly enough, I bet you I would have a hard time getting that for my car. Never mind the mods I have cost me nearly that much and 1/4 of that cost can be attributed to rims & tires - I guarantee I will be lowballed for like $3500 if/when I go on the open market with it.

yours is an SL??

List it on autotrader. I've had much better luck getting higher prices for cars on there than anywhere else.

That's what I've been thinking of doing. One thing is for certain: I won't post it on 3Si. :p Yes, Mine's an SL, but high mileage and it's not in the best of shape (7 out of 10 I would give it).

on e-bay, my 94 TT didn't meet my reserve, the car had 66k miles, and I think got up to 9k or so.

It sold on autotrader, within a few days, for 11k.

I tried e-bay one other time for my 92 stealth TT with 74k on it, barely met my reserve if 6k, and the guy was a deadbeat.

I'll be using autotrader from now on. It consistently pulls a few thousand more for the car. I have no idea why. HAHA

I dunno, I am not really concerned with speed and I know that chances are people will want to race etc but even in my mustang I don't race and gun it every day.

I am going on friday to look at a Subaru Impreza (AWD) cause I really need something that I don't need to drive backwards in in a few inches of snow. So i guess settling on something more practical would be the smarter choice atm. I won't buy it right off though. I just need AWD soon or at least for next year. :) So more suggestion are welcome and thanks for the ones so far :)
at least the 97s are purdy :D
Robert Prinz's white '97 on the Feb page of my 08 3/S calendar has a scraped bottom edge on the front bumper.

I resisted the urge to touch up the picture on my calendar with white-out. :D
