Cage is only worth it if you need it to compete. If you just want some added rigidity handling wise, a good roll bar will do wonders for tying the chassis together and giving some structural support without making it a PITA to get in/out of the car.

I think I will wait. Then hope to try and get into a 3/s with a roll bar at NG and see how/if I like it.
