This was discussed years ago when On Star first came onto the scene. GN said then that cars would not be able to be remotely shut down with On Star for the sheer fact that if the wrong person got the signals that there would be hell to pay.

This part of it is not a conspiracy. OnStar is launching this as a feature this month. It IS happening.

If people go to marrying robots, I could kinda see the benefit, see these people would not be able to reproduce and have kids that are like them or worse

Here's an interesting question for you.

How many news stories have you heard of where someone broke into and/or stole a car by hijacking OnStar's remote unlock capability? They've had this since day one, but I've never even heard of, much less confirmed, someone exploiting that capability.

Remote shutdown won't be any different.

Assuming the C6 Z06 has Onstar. What's the point in making a 550HP car and paying $7x,xxx and not being able to even control it? I'm all for reducing accidents but I think they are targeting the wrong crowd. Check the 17 year old kid that just bought his Eclipse RS.

I sure hope they did a lot of testing to make it as difficult to hack as possible (if only to slow crackers/hackers down). I also hope they did enough testing to ensure that this system doesn't shutoff the car randomly because that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. i.e. granny's going around a bend and the car shuts off, she loses power steering and winds up in a ditch or worse.

Think I'll have to open up shop here in Va if that is going to happen. Just hire a bunch of day laborers, train them for a day and than go skipping and laughing all the way to the bank.

The OnStar system doesn't shut the car off. It gradually powers the engine down to idle and puts the transmission into neutral. You never lose power steering or brake assist.

I'm sure they did a shitload of testing. There's no more chance of the OnStar accidentally cutting power than there is of any of the other multitude of electronic controls causing problems.

Regardless, I sense some nerd is gonna setup some device in/on/around an overpass and just cause all the cars on a freeway/highway/etc. w/ this to come to a stop and cause horrific traffic jams. I wonder if it will even come on police vehicles, that could be a little fun. Block any signals getting to your own car but stop any police cars from being able to get you.

You really don't want to know. Nothing impressive out of the general when it comes to it's police units. The Impala and Tahoe are the only two vehicle they offer with police packages factory installed.

Cop cars in general aren't that impressive. The nice things about them is all the durability stuff they add. Oil coolers, bigger alternators, bigger radiators, stuff like that.

The Police Charger even with the Hemi isn't all that fast. Ford? Heh...forget about it. About the only 'scary' cop cars around here are the undercover Z28 Camaros that the City of Troy has. The only way to pick one out is if you get close enough to see the X on the license plate. The windows are tinted, and all of the lights are on the inside.
