Agreed middle one but only with documents proving the work was done.
Or have someone who knows what they're looking at look at it.

I don't give any documentation with my work.

Obviously it that's the case it gets an invoice but of the 50 or so I've done at home only 1 got an "invoice".

Only 2 of those got redone after they admitted to overheating them.

She is getting on this kick again. Keeps sending me links to old Foresters. However she also doesn't like driving her car for anything over an hour and hates taking it over the passes. It screams and goes nowhere. Well duh, it is a small cheap car (2017 Kia Soul). KBB puts trade in at around $14-16k still.

Personally I think she should try to find something around $15-20k if possible that she would be happy with, get rid of the Kia, use cash on whatever is left over, and be done with it.

Kia is no go, as well as Honda/Acura based vehicles. Kia and probably by extension Hyundai seats are a problem for her. Anything longer than an hour and she hurts. Also being a cheap car (Kia) the ride is harsh, noisy, etc. Honda/Acura I am never comfortable in and we need something we are both comfortable in. Especially if going to be spending time in it.

She likes the boxy look and ease of loading stuff in the Kia plus how easy it is to drive.

I am leaning towards a used Forester for her but we will see what she is happy with as well.

Well the flex meets all her requirements. Boxy, awd, easy to load and drive.

Otherwise you got the Kia soul, element, and I think that's about it.

She does like the element, but hates how the back opens up with that split tailgate thing.

We like Audi, but reliable? She really liked the Tiguan we had for about a year. BUT VW reliability is always suspect. As bad as she wants the new Forest Wilderness she really doesn't want a car payment again either and that would take a bit too much of our savings at the moment to trade in her Kia and pay cash for the rest (about $37k for one).

Wish we had a carmax close by so she could go sit in a bunch of things, closest one is about 100 miles away I think. Whatever she gets she will need to do a LONG test drive. After about 45 min to an hour the Kia hurts too much so she would need to drive whatever it is just as long.

You will spend 30 days on here when you know what she wants. Take her and get one.

VAG is perfectly fine for the first 2-3 years. Then the maintenance starts. At years 5-6 you'll want to set it on fire.

Avoid XT?

Wife really likes this. Seems high price though for the mileage?

These guys did tell me to avoid the turbos when I looked at them. Don’t remember why though.

The FA20DIT is fairly reliable from what I know. More miles than I'd want though

The older EJ255/257 design is less reliable and IIRC that's the proce range yo were looking at.
