So bigger tires let everything turn less rpm’s but I take it you need even more HP to get to higher speeds?

Spyders are boats. There i said it.

Also with needing to be in the torque curve wouldn't the US 6 speed be the most ideal then?

I’m sure your right but it’s all in the tune at that point.

I wonder what the highest top speed a 3/s has gotten into without BS answers.

That’s why we can’t have real answers. I’m sure some have done 180.....wonder how many 190 and up. Seriously.....this should be something we should be able to know.

I've been over 180 indicated in my 97. So realistically probably 170 at best.

Unless you are going out to Bonneville to give it a go, there's really no reason why we need to have a "real answer".

Enough power and a straight, flat, long road - you can do it. There's no question.

But do you really want to go 200 MPH with a transfercase that only holds the barest minimum amount of gear lube in it, and likes to lock up all four wheels if it has a problem? I don't.

Above 155 MPH I was starting to wonder if my side windows were going to get sucked off the car. Things can start to happen that you wouldn't think about, as Jeff encountered.

I went that fast one time, in the middle of nowhere in Iowa, on a 4 mile long stretch with perfect visibility, with nobody in sight, on a 4-lane highway, and me splitting the center line when I got up to speed (in case the car started having tracking issues).

To be perfectly honest, it was scary as hell and I wouldn't do it again. I went 195 MPH on my Kawasaki ZX-11, and felt a lot safer doing that (though I was an indestructible 18 year old then). I'd much rather go fast in my Corvette than an old 3/S car, if I had to pick.

There's a HUGE difference between going 150 and near 200 in a car.

Matt hit the nail on the head. There is no point to go 200mph in a 3/S. There are much better cars suited for that high of speed. The 3/S was never designed for 200mph.

When I had mine up at 155 indicated, bone stock, it was scary as well and I was as Matt put it, and indestructible 20 year old. Hit a bump and the front end got super loose. I did 140 on my motorcycle and felt safer as Matt also said.

Again, this is a bucket list idea. I think it would be fun and if ever close I will go. Found this video some good info.

This reminds me of that video of two guys in that lambo pushing it to the max. They found the footage and posted it but not until they came across them dead and split down a telephone pole.

Be hard pressed to find someone willing to take a 30 year old car to 200mph anytime soon.

It was a lot more dirty than I was thinking. Don’t care honestly, if given the chance I would.

I'm teasing. From the "your car will rust away immediately if it ever sees salt" thread.

Racing another car on a public road for a little over 35 miles. You probably peaked your top speed then backed down. I held it for almost 5 minutes....

Forgot about that thread!
Oops I mis-spoke earlier. It's not the salt itself that is corrosive, it's the hydrogen oxide created from the mixture of water, chloride and carbon dioxide.

Dry salt sprinkled on your chassis by itself isn't an issue unless there is moisture in the air.
Even saying that, unless you wash it with some sort of vinegar mix it will still get moisture.
