Coop is also trying to explain and understand. That doesn’t always work well.
Would wider tires help with wear when curvy roads are concerned?
Would wider tires help with handling more often than sidewall flex?
I’m just trying to get the best of what I want if I have to buy tires. Same as all of you.

Coop also ins't fully reading. All those questions were answered. But alas, we'll answer them again.
Would wider tires help with wear when curvy roads are concerned?
No. Especially when putting too wide of tires on too narrow of a rim.
Would wider tires help with handling more often than sidewall flex?
No. 235 profile tires are typically the widest recommended for a 7.5" wide rim. There will be no handling benefit, especially on an SUV.

Yes, and multiple people have recommended the Pilot Sport AS3+ tires. They will handle better than a cheaper, wider tire. They also last around 45,000 miles (that's what the warranty is anyway). Should be plenty long enough before you get that Tahoe...

The wife gets the Tahoe, this is for me. I will be driving the car for around 50k more and that sucks to have to buy tires right before I have to sell a worthless vehicle at that point.

They are just warrantied for 45k, they may last longer. You can't have it all. If you want tires that last 75k, they aren't going to handle as well. You can get really awesome handling tires, but they'll only last 10k. Buy the nice Michelin now, and buy cheap tires when the Michelins wear out and you're not far from your hard stop of "around 50k". It's your choice. We made our recommendations.

We all should probably just ignore these sorts of threads. Coop's going to do what Coop's going to do, no matter what input we give.

Hi, here to add to the fun.
A wider tire, all other things equal, will not increase the contact surface patch area to the ground.

I think we forgot to mention lockers in this thread. There must be a need for them.

Wait. What? So a 235 and a 255 tire have the same contact surface patch?

Wasnt there a long post not to long ago about how most dont get their mileage out of Michelins? I know I dont, great tires...just dont last what they say it seems. Not saying I will not buy them, just dont see them lasting long is all.

FWIW my Achilles atr sport 2s have lasted 20k miles. They still have plenty of tread but they are starting to make significant noise and vibration when cold now.

I don't remember this, but I won't buy Michelin's except for their sporty tires, which is the Pilot Sport line including the AS3+, Super Sports, Sport Cups, etc.

It was the Michelin Premier LTX Tires we had on our Outback. We burned them up in 30k even though they had a 60k warranty.
I like their sports tires and their actual truck/SUV tires. The Defender LTX is still the best highway tread truck/SUV tires you can get.

Yea, i thought Michelin LTX truck tires were supposed to be the best for traction and wear characteristics. Has that changed.

It hasn't but they have expanded the LTX line to include their crossover tires the Premier LTX. We had the premier on our Outback and they were great tires except for wear.
