The body design looks like it borrowed many ideas from the Viper.

Thats where I was going with it. Of course the powertrain is different.

Mercedes was at it a bit before the Viper..

Eh. 5th gen Viper came out in 2013. AMG GT came out in 2014. The Mercedes Chrysler partnership was done long before that. I think it's just coincidence.

Long nose, short rear overhang 2 door sports cars will always look somewhat similar.

May be so. Mercedes still owned 19.9% in 2008 after the sell and I cant recall how long they kept if for, or if they were in a part of the 5th gen redesign. They would have had access to all new model info though.

Agree, but too many of the body lines, including the front are too similar. Its like a light massage was done. Maybe its just me though.

Vipers suck - Merc definitely does not want to look like one.

I'd put a Viper in my garage and I'd put one of these in my garage and wouldn't complain about either one.

Vipers do not suck, especially the last generation.
