Talked to the dealer. They came back with an interest rate of 7.5% and a payment of $745. They said if I did a warranty they could get 5.5% and my pay to would be $696. All of that was including tax, and $13,300 for my trade.
I said hell no. My 829 credit score means I should get lower. The thing that really pissed me off, he said even with 0% I couldnt get to the $550/month I wanted. I stopped at that point. I can do fucking math, $36995/72 is 513.82. If I financed sales tax at 3.9%, it would be $577 per month. Dont try to bullshit me.
I may see what my bank can do for me. But now I dont even want to deal with them. Guess its time for an inter cooler, and tune for the ST
Yeah. My brother played that game before. He was trying to get from under his truck payment and was trading on a new car. He was upside down on the truck and they first came back with a payment just as much as he was already paying.
He told them no and that he was going to another dealer to see what they could do. They told him to wait a few minutes and came back $100 lower per month. He told them no again and left. Before he got to the other dealer they called him and met the payment he was trying to get to.
People dog on Carmax because some of their cars are a little above average on price, but of the three cars we've bought from them, we've never had to deal with this horseshit. I got 3.95% on the Corvette and less on the other two cars. No hassles, no arguing, no games. I might have been able to get a few tenths better by shopping around, but it just wasn't worth the hassle for such a tiny amount.
Have you tried talking to your bank or a credit union? I don't know how much difference it would make though. If you came in with alternative financing I'm sure they'd find some kind of fee or excuse to tack another 4-5k on to the price
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

I got my volt at 1.9 through gm financial as a used car. Took some negotiating and written offers from others. Get a few offers from shopping around and have them beat it.
500 a month in a car payment?! Jesus. Thats a small house payment.

Also, local credit union will do 3.49% for 72 months on a new car. Fuck that dealership. I'm gonna buy that car from them and make sure they make as little or no money as possible.

Ours is in that ballpark. We started off with a 125k loan on a 30 year and our payment was just over 500. With insurance, PMI and taxes we were ~1000/mo. We refinanced into a 15 year so we're a little higher now, but it's still very reasonable.

My truck payment is nearly 3x that. Oh and you cant find a house here for anything close to $500 a month. You would be sharing a room with someone on campus otherwise.
