So that brings an interesting question up, if you don't get the 7.5k is this all moot?

Something to think about. Can he really just cut it like that?

Also, is that tax break a subsidy? Or is it from the government to the buyer as an incentive to buy alternative sources? Does GM see anything from that?

Ending the subsidy would require Congress to pass a new law.

Doubt congress will let that happen.

He would need congress to pass it I think, since it relates to taxes/IRS, he can't do it single handedly by EO or anything.

But I mean, since the GOP are kinda boot lickers at the moment and could frame the argument as fighting for the little guy?

Looks like I can get this one for even cheaper. I get GM supplier pricing through Costco at this dealer.

Should put me at right about $35k for it.

That's before the break, that's not so bad!

If that 7500 was gone I'd look at leasing.

It's a good deal, but still about $200 more a month (because I'm sure they will offer less than I owe for the volt).

So your not getting 7,500....your paying higher for the vehicle.

Jason this is a stupid idea, don’t do it.

Well well, only if Trump instructs the GOP to push through the removal of that subsidy.

Wonder if that's a possibility.

That tax break applies to all electric cars. He won't be able to do it without amending the law, and I'm sure GMs lawyers could easily tie it up in court challenges until the new Congress is sworn in on Jan 3.

I am curious to see what kind of lease I could get. If that payment is relatively low it might make sense to go that route instead of buying.

A person familiar with the matter told CNN Business that GM is unaware of any significant federal subsidies the company is receiving beyond a $7,500 plug-in tax credit, which goes to the consumer, not the company.

"The entire industry qualifies for this. It's nothing exclusive to GM," said Jeremy Acevedo, manager of industry analysis at Edmunds.

Trump's stupidity and ignorance would be funny if it wasn't so fucking dangerous.

Scarily enough I also agree with Coop. The reality is even though I was shopping before I was rear-ended in the Exploder. If it hadn't been declared a total loss I'd likely still be driving it because of how expensive it would be to replace it properly.

That $200 a month is just a bit too much for my blood right now.

Like I said, I will see what kind of lease deal I can get. If not worth it I will walk away.

I can get into a 2018 Premium on lease, with trading in my car, for about $125-150 more a month than I pay now...

Thoughts?

Lease would end right about the time we will be looking at moving.

Going to pass on it.

If you figure 150 more a month, not including if insurance goes up, over the next 3 years, that is $5400+ For that much I can pay for any issues with the Volt that might come up over the next 3 years. Will get rid of it though before 2021 or 100k miles though. That is when the battery warranty goes away.
