And then something like this pops up:

https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/6065543638.html

Get that, drop in a LSX engine, redo interior, paint it, fix up suspension.... then?

Not necessarily that one, but something like that. Get an older Camaro (pre 1980) and throw in a LSX engine.

She isn't okay with that and not a vette? You need to check her temp.

She loves older muscle cars. She would also rather me get a project car than a vette.

I bet you would have more fun and get more use out of a vette than that thing. Just tell her they look great, they are fast, and you get to enjoy it now with few problems instead of a project that just gonna steal time and money.

She hates the looks of the Vette, and doesn't care too much about speed. She loves the looks, sound, and smell of the older cars with modified engines. If I could find a blue first gen Camaro for the right price she would go buy it tomorrow.

This is way out of our price range right now, but something like this she would go buy right now - http://www.pacificclassics.com/store/p1 ... amaro.html

But we are not going to spend $30k on a toy.

Spent the morning researching stuff.

Figure $5-8k for a decent bodied 1st or 2nd gen Camaro.
$2000 for a LS1 engine and trans.
$6000-$10000 or so for all other needed parts (suspension, driveline, etc).

Total investment = $13-$20k

Or I can just get this for $15k and be done - https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/6078620253.html

If it were up to driving an old muscle car, or a modern day sports car (all for the same money). I'd pick the modern day sports car. Old muscle cars will just have a constant need for fixing. They handle and ride like crap. You have to worry about people's repairs that they have performed over the past 50+ years. Hoping some crazy backwoods hacks haven't been performed. There is a reason nice ones sell for good money.

At that mileage, expect to put some money into maintenance. Suspension on those is pretty much shot at that point. Tires can be pricey (if needed). Engine gaskets and such will start to need to be replaced. Just remember that going into it and looking at it.

What are some maintenance concerns with "higher" mileage C6 vettes? Say around 75k miles on it?

The more research I do the more I fall in love with the C7 vette. Ugh. Maybe I will hold off and save up and buy one next year...

I am not a small guy. I need to find one and see if I can fit in it. I think the local carmax has one.

I'm 6'1 and 225 lbs and it fits me very well. For general body fit the only way to know is to take a drive in one. Height-wise, I'd say 6' 3" would likely be pushing it. Mine has the transparent roof option, and the carbon fiber roof (standard) may be thicker with the headliner in it, so if the normal roof seems too low maybe see if you can find one with the transparent roof to see if it is better.

There are also two seat options. Standard and "Competition" seats. I found the standard seats to be more comfortable. The side bolsters are more substantial on the competition seats, so those may squeeze us bigger guys from the side more than the standard ones. I don't think there's any difference in the positioning of the seats or how far back they go, etc.

I'm also probably not built like your average 350+ lbs guy.
