That's pretty much what I assumed. I've thought it'd be fun to grab a 3.5L block and go to town with my TD05s, but there's no way in hell they'd fit. With the stock manifolds and adapter plates, they already touch the firewall.
Oh well.

Without knowing the details of block hight difference and how that effects the location of the exhaust valves, I wouldn't be surprised if some TD05 kits could fit. My IPS kit has at least 1.5 inches of clearance between the rear turbo and the firewall. The big problem is the wastegate, which runs pretty close to the firewall. A little bit of modification should resolve this.
The front turbo should also have about 1.5 inches of room, so long as slim-line radiator fans area installed. Personally, I would worry more about the intercooler pipes. My IPS J-pipes alread rub against the hood (well, the rear does). You'd need to get a pretty sharp turn on that pipe coming off of the rear turbo.
Also, I would imagine that a custom downpipe would be required. If the relative distance/location/orientation of the turbos change with a 3.5L block, then an OEM or OEM replacement downpipe shouldn not fit, correct? I saw nothing about that on Monnin's site.

I don't see why the TD05 kits wouldn't fit on a 3.5L engine. I believe Von is making one of his cars using an evo3 16G 3.5L setup. I kicked around the idea of doing it to my 98 vr4 as well. Maybe a winter project. I'm just enjoying driving it right now.

The kits with headers would probably work. My problem is my adapter plates. My rear turbo is right up against the firewall.
I'm just drooling at the thought of quick spool using a 3.5L with 14Bs
Hans, you know anything about the 3.8L block in the recent Mitsus? As far as I know, it's a totally different casting and wouldn't have a shot in hell of bolting in place of a 6G72/74 block.

I haven't seen one out of a car yet. I should take one for a test drive and bring it back to the shop to check it out

I've got some crappy underbody photos of an Endeavor from the auto show, and I've seen some partially disassembled pics of the 4G Eclipse. Nothing conclusive, but it certainly wasn't encouraging.

Oh yeah, I also downloaded the 4G factory service manual. Still need to dig into that a little deeper.

arent the 3.8's the engines that have the tranny on the other side....or am i thinking of the monteros....i know there was a 3.8L 6g74 i think....forget where i read it

The 3.8L is the 6G75. The tranny is on the other side on that one.
Thing is, the 3G Eclipse had a 3.0L 6G72 SOHC, and that one was mounted backwards too. I don't think the orientation of the tranny is a deal breaker if the block has the mounting bosses for the engine mounts.
I just remembered the thing that scares me the most about the 4G. The front and rear mounting brackets are on the transmission bell housing instead of the block.
The only thing that gives me hope is that the Montero 3.8 appears to bolt in place of a Montero 3.5. Brackets are on the block in both configurations.

I think the best person to ask would be Nelson. He's got one, and iirc that is the one he stroked to 4.1L
I thought Nelson started with a 3.5L 74 block and stroked that?
To my knowledge, nobody has used a 75 block in any 3S application.

I doubt it's something I'd actually do. At least not any time soon. It's just a fun mental exercise.
It'd be cool if Nelson had a 75 block, but with as custom as his car is, I'm not sure his solutions would work for my problems
