Boom. Door latch assembly switched over and working great so far.

15 min job. And that includes digging out the tools and putting them away.

Basically inside the assembly is a set of gears and associated sensors that fuck up and go bad. Sometimes you can lube the gears and it works. In my case that didn't help so it was a bad internal sensor.

I replaced it with a GM Genuine Part. GM# 15110643

So this has been driving me nuts trying to figure it out. In my front bumper I have two notches on the bottom half of the openings, and behind that and attached to the frame are two what looks like hitch receivers.

Any idea what this was used as in a past life? I don't think it was a plow truck as I have never seen a plow attached that way.

Factory tow hooks. Most all of them have those.

So... What's with the cuts in the chrome part in the bottom of the holes?

Plow or tow behind?

I was thinking tow behind personally because plows usually attach at the bottom.

Or maybe a construction vehicle that used something to hold cones or maybe a sign/traffic thing on the front? Like a wide load monitor truck or something.

Oh shit I didn't see those.

Possibly a mount for a tow behind setup.

I thought for a minute it might be a hi-rail conversion, but those mount low like plows.



Who knows? I couldn't find anything even remotely like it on Google. Most of the flat tow stuff I found had clevis mounts instead of receivers.

Right? That's why I can't figure it out. I'll eventually swap out the bumper for one without the notches though.

It's going to be weird not doing anything to the truck for awhile. Would like to add either a tonneau cover or canopy, and a locking tailgate, but other than that... :d ontknow:

Maybe it had a bull bar on it at some point.

Steve, for my own reference, was it the three or four groove?

Also, I notice a definite difference in the way it drives. In a good way.

Good to hear. That little slop on center may be able to be tightened up a bit by adjusting the steering box lash. I'm not positive if that one had it but it should.

4 groove.

The slop on center is already better with the replaced parts. Lol. I'll look into the steering box thing.

Also got the p0442 code for the 2x time today. Going to replace the fuel cap and purge valve since both are cheap and the top 2 culprits of the code. If that fails I'll look into other potential leak locations.

Tightened up the box about 1/4 turn. We will see how it feels on the way to work in the morning.

Give it a test drive first. It is possible it'll bind at the outer ranges. Just be aware of that.


Purge valve isn't terribly common. They will leak on occasion but besides the fuel cap the vent solenoid (there's a tsb for relocating the filter box portion) and ftp sensor are pretty common.

Wish I remembered you had an evap issue. I woulda checked it out. GM and Ford's I can usually have an answer in about 15 minutes.

Chrysler? Just replace the nvld. There's no diagnosing those fucking abominations.

I'll see how it drives tomorrow. Can always turn it back a bit.

I don't think I mentioned it on here before. Got the p0442 code a couple of weeks ago. Took off and put the fuel cap back on and cleared the code but it came back today.
