The trailer is 28.5 ft and the truck is 19.3 ft.

I'm having similar temptations.

I kinda think of it as a towing/reliability thing. Keeping the intake charge cooler when towing is better for everything. In theory the turbos don't have to work quite as hard to get the engine to the requested torque value, the cooler charge means it's less likely to knock, less heat into the engine, better cooling for the coolant... I'm sure I'm probably grasping for a reason to do it and I really shouldn't lol.

You need to be careful with intercoolers. The RS has a block off plate from the factory over part of the intercooler because when they first designed the bumper openings etc., it ended up being TOO efficient, and in certain high humidity conditions too much water can condense in the intake system and cause issues with the engine running. There are people who have removed the blocking plate and had issues in those conditions. Obviously plenty of people get aftermarket intercoolers which are even more efficient, but those people also almost always have tunes as well, which helps to mitigate the issue because you're running higher boost/temps and need more efficiency anyway.

I seem to remember there being something about the gen 13 trucks having intercooler icing issues when they first came out too.

It was a huge problem on 12th Gen Ecoboosts. It was to the point where people drilled holes in their intercoolers and left them open to the atmosphere. That's not really a problem on 14th gen trucks if for no other reason than because Ford has active grill shutters now. The intercooler I linked maintains the shutters. I have no plans to do it, but I do think it'd be a good change for towing.

The RS wasn't so much about icing, as it was water would get ingested into the engine because in humid air, because the intercooler would cool the air so rapidly it condensed in the intercooler. Just something to potentially be aware of. Though I would assume they got it figured out on F150. The RS just didn't have the development cycles like the F150.

It wasn't an issue on the ST, which also had grill shutters (RS doesn't have them). My buddies 2020 has the grill shutters too. But I think the main point of those is to just get the engine up to temp faster, and to improve aero for better MPG, not so much to control intake/IC temps.

Does your truck have the flat subwoofer behind the rear seat?

I don't think so, I just have the basic stereo. It doesn't even have HD Radio

Gotcha. Apparently they used the same sub box on both our trucks. I was going to have you take some measurements. No worries.
