If I am going to be spending the money and getting something else it is going to be useful. A subaru is not useful for me.

How unreliable is the XJ? Breaking down weekly? Or could potentially? Major breakdowns (engine/trans) or relatively minor stuff?

Will a AAA tow package and your repair bills be less than a new car?

Pretty much every time I have driven the Jeep for more than just a few miles something has gone wrong. Minor stuff, but enough that it stops it from being able to be driven. Still need to make sure it is holding oil pressure.

At this point I am not sure of anything else that could go wrong. It has new headers, plugs, oil pressure sending unit, radiator, gaskets, timing chain, shocks, tires, radio, cluster, springs, leaf springs, etc. My biggest concern now is driveline issues. Vibrates/shakes like crazy about 50 mph. Assuming with a hack n tap or SYE would fix that. I hope. Also smells crazy hot and like it might have an exhaust leak somewhere. But gauges don't show overheating and coolant levels look good.

Also last time I drove it oil pressure went away. Hooked up a mechanical gauge for over an hour in the garage and pressure never dropped to a dangerous level so swapped in a new sending unit. Haven't driven it since then.

Get rid of the Jeep. It's not doing you any favors sitting there.

Pick up an older truck. Keep and daily volt.

This way at least the truck sitting there doing nothing is actually useful when needed

This is what I suggested a long time ago. This is what I do. Daily the escape and take the avalanche to the fire hall and when needed.

Drive the truck some and the you will feel better for when you have to drive the volt. You are not gonna find the perfect vehicle for the price you want. You want something that’s perfect, might as well buy new.

Not an option.

That would be the most expensive route and give me 3 car payments. Not something I'm comfortable with since I'll be losing income.

I could buy a truck outright but I'm not touching savings for it. Need to build up savings, not deplete it.

Also if we sell the jeep I don't see any money from it. Her jeep. Her money. We agreed to that a long time ago and every time we discuss selling it she always reminds me that I don't get to see the money.

What would she want to do with it? The wife and I combine our money. It’s not always fun but at the same time we are suppose to be in this together and together money let’s us do stuff neither could without the other. It’s only an issue when there isn’t any money and then the blame game starts. So I try to keep what I know she will feel okay with in the bank.

We keep certain things separate. Income is combined but stuff we sell that is ours we decide what to do with the money individually. Helps control her. She has a bad spending habit but as long as she only spends money from stuff of hers she sells then we are ok.

I know you are joking, but in reality I am relatively stupid tight with money compared to her. I tend to spend a lot of vehicles, that is my only big vice. It is why I haven't already made a purchase. Trying to be better about it.

She on the other hand has some issues that leads to major spending followed by major regret followed by more spending. She will get in this mood and want to go spend hundreds of dollars on stuff she doesn't need. Then a week later realize what she did and be upset. Then gives everything to goodwill or sells it. Then a few months later the same thing. She got on this bracelet kick a bit ago and spent like $600 on them. Now she is selling them all. It is annoying, but it is her money.

So to help with this spending/selling stuff we set up a paypal account for her and separate checking account that none of our income goes into. It is hers to do whatever she wants with. Other than that I have complete control over finances and she has to OK any purchase she makes with me beforehand if it will come out of our checking.

It is a symptom of some of her mental issues she battles with.

Yea, my wife is as frugal as they come. I thought I was bad...no way. She still lives like shes in college only buying what she needs when needed. Me getting us a Costco membership was like watching a seal melt in the sun. Lol!
