Went for a drive the other day and I was the passenger. No one has been in the passenger side in probably over a year. Floor was soaked. Like puddle forming soaked. Thought it might be from condensation since the inside of the windows were wet too. Pulled it into the garage about a week ago. Removed the passenger seat (broke a rusted bolt doing it, will need to probably drill a hole and put a new bolt and washer on), and started lifting up the carpet. Lots of water and sopping wet padding under. Some surface rust too. Pulled out the drain plug and did what I could to remove the water. One week in and still very wet padding. Seems wetter to me than before. Been sick for two weeks so no sense of smell but the wife says the water smells like rain or damp wood smell. Not like coolant. Going to pull it into the driveway Monday and let it run for a while to see if the heater works. If not, going to guess heater core is leaking?

Also found what looks like a bunch of moldy seeds under the foam padding under the rubber mat that sits in the foot well up by the center console. So maybe something chewed through something?

Also next day it doesn't rain going to poor water over the vents at the firewall to see if it leaking there.

Ugh. One thing after another with this jeep anymore.

Have you been driving it much? Vehicles that sit do not end up doing well. Gotta drive them.

If that door never gets opened or closed the seals could easily have failed.

Hence why once we have a non rainy day I'm going to pour water over it and see if I see a leak.

Ran it for about 20 min on idle and reved the engine a couple times. Heat never got hot. Warm, yes, but not what I would expect. Would not have kept me warm in a Wisconsin winter. Good enough probably for around here, but not much colder. The LJ I had would keep you warm with the top off in winter. Not this thing.

Also, engine now has a weird squeak. Sounds kind of internal. Hard to tell though. Doesn't sound like a belt squeak to me.

Don't want to pay anyone anymore to work on it, but ugh. Don't want to work in it myself either anymore. So tired of it.

Steve - when you get a chance, lets figure out a time to get me that cluster. I will take it before I have Jeff mess with it. Would like to see what the engine temp and oil pressure looks like.

Saturday afternoon should be good. Either before or after I head over to Kabuki.

Squeaking was the belt. Let it run again for a bit. The warmer it got the louder the squeak. Sprayed just a small amount of pb blaster on the belt and squeak went away until it dried and then it came back. So either a pulley or the belt itself.

Just need to figure out the water thing and heat now.

Always start with the t-stat. You can take it out and boil some water and see what it’s doing.

Hoping after this weekend I can see what the engine temp is doing. No way of checking it right now. Did check the belt tension and it was really low. Tightened it up to FSM specs. Will see if that helps the squeak later.

Still going back and forth with myself if I want to get the bilstein 5100s. With as little as we do drive it, it almost doesn't make sense to spend the $, but at the same time, a better ride would be nice.

Yep.

Now other parts are going.

Shocks are something that don't need replaced, but would be nice. They are newer ones, but super stiff.

Engine wise it seems good, but something tells me the heater core might be on the way out. With the water build up in the passenger foot well and the heat not blowing strong.

Knowing my luck it is probably a clogged pipe around the core or from the water pump.

No more squeak now that I tightened the belt.

Now for the heating issue:

According to the FSM:

CONDITION:

INADEQUATE HEATER PERFORMANCE. THERMOSTAT FAILED IN OPEN POSITION

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

1. Has a Diagnostic trouble Code
(DTC) been set?

2. Coolant level low

3. Obstructions in heater hose/
fittings

4. Heater hose kinked

5. Water pump is not pumping
water to/through the heater core.
When the engine is fully warmed
up, both heater hoses should be
hot to the touch. If only one of the
hoses is hot, the water pump may
not be operating correctly or the
heater core may be plugged.
Accessory drive belt may be
slipping causing poor water pump
operation.

CORRECTION:

1. Refer to Group 25, Emissions for
correct procedures and replace
thermostat if necessary

2. Refer to Cooling System-Testing
For Leaks in this group.

3. Remove heater hoses at both
ends and check for obstructions

4. Locate kinked area and repair as
necessary

5. Refer to Water Pump in this
group. If a slipping belt is detected,
refer to Accessory Drive Belts in this
group. If heater core obstruction is
detected, refer to Group 24, Heating
and Air Conditioning.

From what I was able to tell, it is number 5. The return line from the heater core is still cold even after the engine is warmed up. Going to assume it might be a clogged core or the pump is done for. Didn't see any kinks in hoses, no DTC, and coolant level is fine.
