Winch spooled.

All done except speedo gear and new gauges.

Waiting for a slow traffic time to set the brakes. Have to do a bunch of 40-0 stops.

This thing will see very little "hardcore" off road, but will see snow, mud, sand, etc. So really don't need under armor, but debating on a gas tank skid and a rear lunchbox locker....

Still haven't had a chance to bed the brakes, but did get the speedo gear put in. Will need to see how accurate it is when I do the brakes.

Other than that, I think the only thing I am waiting to do now is the cluster swap. Once Jeff gets a hold of it we will see what he can do with it for me. Was able to get one for cheap on a part-out in Vancouver (Steve picked it up for me and is shipping it for me to Jeff, because you know, Steve and Jeff are awesome).

Other than that, still going back and forth in my head if I really want to spend the money on a LSD for the rear right now.

AND I just spent time looking at skids, SYE, and lockers. Ugh. Need to stop doing that. This is not a hardcore off-road rig. Dirt/gravel roads, snow, and sand. Big tires that are aired down are much more beneficial for those environments.

You have a 3"+ lift and no SYE? That's daring. I would worry about the locker once you get tired of your factory gear ratio. Then install gear set and locker/lsd combo.

Right now I would rather get the rust issue fixed.

Then upgrade axle shafts.

Then skids.

If you dont want to drop the cash on the SYE you can go another route. Its been 10 years but I believe I ended up cutting the tail shaft about an 1" off, drilling and threading a bolt for the center, and then bolting a late 50's early 60's Corvette trans yoke to it. Been working perfect for years. I think the yoke was $60 shipped.

You can buy that armor plate for the whole rear quarters if you want. Looks pretty cool.

Axle shafts are fine for what you do. I would do gears and lockers before those.

Drove the jeep to the gym. About 1/2 way here the rear exhaust hanger fell off... I knew it had a chance of happening since the bolt was really rusted. Lol. Hopefully the exhaust will stay put until I get home later and can try to put a new bolt through.

Luckily I'm one of those people who keep everything. Had the prefect bolts and an old hanger from my last xj.

It was the rear hanger by the gas tank. There is one by the cat, one by the muffler, and one by the tailpipe. It was the tailpipe one that gave way. All it did was let the exhaust shake back and forth and bump up against the gas tank and leaf spring. More of an annoyance than a problem.

So as soon as I got home last night I backed it into the garage, crawled underneath, checked to see what I needed, pulled out the old part bin, got it all, crawled back under, and bolted it all up.

I do have to admit, one of my new favorite "tools" is the wire I use to thread bolts through the frame. Makes things so much easier.

And back into the driveway it sits again for now. Will drive it at least once every other week to the gym and start it up and drive it around the block 1x a week for a bit. Keep things running right.
