That's not where I chose to have it put.... Long story, they won't change it or compensate for it.

Well after about 20 miles with the car, discovered a number of issues with the gauge cluster. Basically, the tach intermittently wouldn't work above 5k rpms, the speedo was off a couple mph and then there's the issue with the odometer reading 141k when the car was title fresh with 0 miles.
Found a guy on eBay who said he could reprogram the odometer but he disappeared (probably due to legal issues). So I gave i a try myself. Not too difficult. Desolder the chip, put it into a serial converter, then use a hex editor to reprogram it.
Unless you're horrible with soldering like I am... And you screw up the chip...
So basically my gauge cluster was junk. What to do? This!
Speedhut 2 5/8" boost, 4" tach/speedo with turns and high beam, 3 3/8" fuel, oil, water and volt gauge.
LED Check Engine light from Painless and two generic automotive red LEDs for the brake light. I had a second one for the alternator light but that was before I learned the Hydra doesn't use the alternator light... Which is fine because the Speedhut gauge has a light for that.
Also ordered a new gauge cluster from Exomotive. Quick turn around now that they are caught up on orders. Sold my old one to Alex.
I'm very happy with these gauges. The speedometer is GPS so it will always be accurate no mater what I do with the wheel or gearing setup.
The tach required a 4.7k "pull up" resister to work but that was easy to install. It came with the gauge. Tach is setup to receive 2 PPR and matches the hydra digital readout perfectly. Shift light comes on at 7k, redline is 7400.
Discovered the alternator is over charging the system. Never would have realized this without the gauge! The reason is the alternator is regulated by the Hydra which comes with a default duty cycle setup for a stock Miata. Being the Exocet has much much less load, these settings had to be lowered. Very easy to do. Works perfectly now.
Put more miles on the car today. Very happy with how it runs, drives and cruises. Just need a final alignment now and it's done done.
AutoX scheduled for the 30th in Dover. Can't wait!

Last few months have been... hard to say the least... Mostly because of work. Things have gotten really rough due to business slowing down and I've since been searching for a new job. Unfortunately this means no more powder coating and there goes my access to all these awesome tools...
BUT!
The Exocet finally has over 100 miles on it and this week it helped me set a great first impression during an interview with Scotts Auto group in West Chester, PA. I'm very excited about this new position and eagerly waiting on word this week if I'm hired. The car, if anything, makes a great resume for someone who lacks "professional" experience.
So far the Exocet has been excellent. Only issue is the knock sensor (one of the few original parts left) died during my latest tuning session. Other than that, it has literally been a dream come true.
In my down time between jobs, I plan on ordering a new rear gas tank cover and completely redoing everything back there. Nice new aftermarket fuel filler which will mount on the back instead of the top of the cover. This should solve the fuel filling issue where I can't hold the nozzle wide open without it backing up the filler and clicking off. No more extra hole for the purge eff-up I did earlier... Best of all, I found a trailer turn signal board that will allow me to integrate the turns into the tail lights so they will blink instead of needing separate bulbs for the turns (no more ugly orange arrows).
Also need to powder coat my new aluminum fenders which cover the 245s nicely. The thing is though, the open-wheel look has really grown on me. Cops don't bother me for it either... We'll see....

You'll have to let me know if you get that job in West Chester. My cousin lives out there and I need to plan a trip to spend a weekend out there with him sometime in the upcoming future.

That is exciting Greg. Glad to see you getting some pavement time. You have put a LOT of work into this car.

I didn't realize you were that close to West Chester, but yeah, next time I try to get out that way I'll let you know and we'll have to have a drink or 6.

Jalopnik review of a turbo Exocet. It starts off sounding a little critical, but it makes sense by the end.

I’ve never felt so much fear and enjoyment at the same time. Everything you feel, hear and encounter in the Exocet is heightened. In what other car can you listen to the wonderful noises made by the turbo, hit 60 mph quicker than a Porsche 911 and breathe in the emissions of a Range Rover with its tailpipe right next to your head in traffic? This was a pure, untainted experience modified by nothing.

Didnt make it cuz of work.
Mainly it was a nice day car. Took it for a trip down to Chesapeake city and a few random car shows. Didnt even have 1000 miles on it when I sold it.
Oh I sold the RX7 about the same time as the Exocet. Made a little bank on that car too.
