Wonder if the heads place messed up the heads?

Damn Chris. I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I just got off the phone with the shop I got the heads from and they're asking me to bring them the whole car as it sits. They want to tear down the engine inspect it and "make it right if their parts caused the failure." I'm equally excited and scared because of they blame me for the failure then I could be getting back a disassembled car and maybe a bill for their labor. On the other hand I could get back a running car ready to drive. :ohnoes:

Oh, that can be tricky. My bet is they throw blame.

I would ask them how much they are gonna charge you if they decide they arnt at fault. Seems like an independent place should do that.

I just got off the phone with M45 and as I predicted they need to pull the engine and of course if I have them pull the engine and reassemble it's going to be expensive... they want $4k for that. The other option is we pick the car up again I pull the heads and Don said he'd swing by and pick them up and drop them off. Any work needed on the heads is warranty work but I'd still have to replace any one time use gaskets and seals :sigh:

This is exactly what I expected when they asked me to bring the whole car. Now we've wasted time and gas to be exactly where I was on the 8th. I'm so over this mess.

It sucks, but you should definitely bring it back and do it yourself. I wish I was out there. I'd be happy to help you with it. :(

It really would be nice if we all lived within like a 150 miles radius of each other

I just feel like this whole project has been one terrible idea. When I got there to look at it I wanted to walk away, but told myself "no that's just your anxiety acting up." I should have listened to myself then. Later i just dove in and ordered a short block ($3500 for the SB and associated other things) thinking i'd just need some minor head work. It turned out the short block might have been fine, but my heads were trash (like not even good for core trash). Saw a few people on FB mention the Clearwater Cylinder shop with good results, ordered them. Got back another set of trash heads. Sent them back for a refund I sill haven't seen, and I may just be writing off that $1300. Bought $2000 Reman heads from a shop I trusted and used frequently before. Then the intake cam shaft on the RH Head seized. Now I'm looking at around another $300-$500 to do it myself, or they texted me and lowered the price down to $3000 for them to do the work to pull the engine, heads, and reassemble.

I'm not lying when I say this whole process is part of why I'm so hesitant to replace my truck. I feel like i'm making one terrible decision after another and its really fucking with my head.

Man I'd love that, it'd be nice to feel like there are people who actually want to see me and hang out with me. Feels like now most people just want to see my wife and kids :(

I still think it should be by an independent shop. I’m sure if we all lived near each other it would be great…..and bad for family. Lol.

Your only terrible decision was sticking with Subaru. The rest of your decisions have been pretty darn good.

...well...and removing the Fords chrome bumper, but I might be on my own island there. ;)

I can SO relate.

Chris, Ryan and I have painted, Jason is a couple of working biceps away from building a War Rig, and Coop has Fisher Price's leftovers as original equipment on his truck.

Coop has done way worse. I can tell you a great number of fuck ups on my vr4 when building.
