Re: Trailer
I want a back up camera for the avalanche for the trailer. But want it so I can also put it on the end of the trailer for the trip.
Been stressing as sat I am going to hook up the trailer and take it to work but have to hook it up myself. Really trying to find a camera. Then it hit me. I can wait a little as I can use my GoPro for right now and just look at my phone to hook up the trailer.

Re: Trailer
I’ve hooked up trailers alone for years without a camera. It takes a little bit of time but it’s not hard. Find something that is center line on your truck, line it up with something centerline on your trailer and back up. You’ll have to get out a couple times to judge distance, but it’s not hard.
Re: Trailer
I’ve been doing it since I was 16. Every weekend every summer. It’s nothing new. Doesn’t mean I like getting in and out about 5 times and messing around when a camera is sooooo much easier.

Figured out the back up camera and I’m actually upset I had t thought about it till now.
My GoPro. Just do preview mode.
Also I can mount it in the trailer when hauling, have a battery pack hooked on it, and just leave the wifi on…watch it for the first 20 miles but then spot check it there after.

Re: Trailer
Has yours got any kind of adjustable timelapse mode? Maybe only have it take a picture every couple seconds when it's in the trailer?
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

It does have Timelapse. Maybe that could work.

Re: Trailer
Okay. Where to start.
First went to instal the brake controller in the avalanche. Not the same as the one for the Tahoe. So second time towing it with no brake controller. Not a huge deal as it’s not a lot of weight, but it is enough to push you some.
Went to take it into work. Loaded up the avalanche with a ton of tools, stuff to instal, more tools. Like so much that it’s packed.
Get to the in laws to tow it into work…key wouldn’t go in the tongue lock, I’m frustrated. I have a month an half and honestly the fire dept is the perfect place for it. Huge doors, lots of room, people to help. So I’m pissed. I’m furious. 3 more weeks till I work a weekend and I need to get this thing ready.
Go to work, no trailer. When another person wakes up I offer 40 bucks to stay and give me an hour to an hour and half to go get the key. I call up the wife. We keep the keys in ONE spot. No keys are there. I knew I grabbed them all. I’m getting worried as what if I lost them. Fuck. I was mad. I decided to go back and try these keys again.
They worked.
Thankfully. Bring it into work.
So far, I have mounted the winch base (that’s the long bolts through the frame). The bolts I got to mount to the winch are too long so I need diff those. We may run into town and get them. I mounted one D hook. Not too happy how far out is is. I wanted it in more but that’s where it ended up.
More to update later and hopefully some pictures.

Re: Trailer
3 shelves

One shelf out and winch plate in. The two middle bolts go through the 2x4 metal center beam

The backing plate under the D ring.

The inside from back

Outside

Top walkway

Otherwise

Winch mounted, shelf staying down but not gonna throw it away. Also I cut that block so I dont have to use a cinder block

Inside. You can see the lights that have a light switch and what not.

Re: Trailer
Need a battery box. Gonna mount two more d rings up front closer just so I have some options. I have a friend whose gonna let me use some ramps. I will look at those. Want to get that vinyl off as well.
Some work to do, but right now I could take it and get the model A.

Re: Trailer
Doing good. Mount your front d rings further apart. Like 6-8 inches from the outside walls. A wider mounting pattern gives you more leverage and stability when strapping down.

Re: Trailer
The front ones are out as far as they really could. I was gonna mount some in farther. So I could have a strait shot when tie down. I figured too much angle either way X strapped or Y strapped would be bad if something came off.

I need some ramps. I have some I can borrow but would just rather have some or make some.
Ideas?

Re: Trailer
A good set of automotive ramps is like $500-800 don't get equipment ramps it's what we have and they are probably 90% of the issues we have.
Re: Trailer
Anyone have any reflective tape on their trailer? Was just thinking about a little on the bottom across the back. We will not really be traveling much in the dark but if we hit bad weather I will be going pretty slow, it might help others.

Re: Trailer
I think of you put any on the back it has to be just red, but your trailer lights should have reflectors in them. Reflective tape on the sides has to be white front and red back. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights ... RE18T.html

Hmmmm. Guess I will read up on this.
Also I think instead of the hitch posted earlier I will go with this. A little more bud gives way more.

Re: Trailer
Probably overkill for this haul but weight distribution on 'half ton' and smaller tow vehicles is a good idea.
Re: Trailer
I figured it would be but anything that makes this go smoother, the better.
So the electrical box on the front of the trailer is broken and looks fine if you are looking at it but then realize it has duck tape holding it together. Also a diote was burnt and made the lights not work. The box was all of 3 bucks from wells cargo and the diote is 21. Bought those.

I also read that its better for SUVs as trucks are set up a little more for towing and can squat the rear better than an suv that has lots of weight and cargo back there.
