Yes, I had the wrong gear set for a top speed run. For some reason I left the word "wrong" out of my post. Edited it to put it in to be more clear.

Definitely not implying "JDM gears" are better for top speed. The only way that would be true is if the added torque from the shorter gearing overcame the wind resistance.

Probably saw the purchase as an investment. The car had so many good parts on it, he probably figured he could sell the individual pieces for more than what he paid. Never kept in touch with the guy but Miata owners are so cheap it wouldn't surprise me to learn he didn't sell everything or make any money.

I don’t live close enough to “chase” this. It’s more like, one time in my life I would like to run it. If I went 190 I would be happy. But we all know that the 200 is that “mythic” number for us normal people.

Yea, i wouldn't dabble in that again unless you are in a good place to keep it long term. Then maybe i just get attached, but that much work from the ground up tends to make things more difficult to let go.

1000hp would get you to 200mph easily.

The Veyron is heavier than a stock 3/S, but has a similar coefficient of drag and a similar frontal area from what I could find on Google. The Veyron hit 253mph, so a 3/S with 1000hp should be able to get to 200mph fairly easily.

Another example, lets look at Cleetus McFarland's drag race Corvettes. His manual transmission Vette has probably around 1300hp or so, and it runs a 1/4 mile in 7.6 seconds at 186mph. It's super light, but it also gets to nearly 200mph in 1/4 of a mile. A nice long distance, and 1000hp should get you to 200mph easy.

Again though the 3/S is not the car to be trying to do 200mph in...

That’s some good though, and what I will prob have to do if I ever truly get to go do it. Look at other vehicles and just adapt.

To be honest I think a 3s would be fine. Especially if you’ve replaced all bushings, have an overrun for the Tcase, have the right tires, cage, and all the other safety.

Some Russian magazine took an active aero 3k to a wind tunnel.

The Ford GT that set the Texas Mile record at 300.4mph had ~2500hp. This is 300mph, and in 1 mile, so it needs lots of power for acceleration as well.

The current Ford GT has a claimed top speed of 216mph. Someone took one to a 2.7 mile long runway, and hit 210mph before shutting it down, and it still had a bit more speed in it. The current Ford GT has 647hp.

The front end feels super light at 150, can't imagine at 200. I wouldn't want to do it in my Stealth. Much better cars suited for 200mph than a grand touring chassis designed in the 80s...

I would have to disagree from the Stealths stand point. Ive probably done 4-5 150mph pulls back in my college years and that car felt planted on all 4 corners. 92 RT for reference.

I’ve been in a celica at 140 and it’s front end just floated. Mine at 160 felt rock solid. I’m sure a lot of that is suspension, tires, cross winds, literally anything but this isn’t just about the mph. This is about doing in a 3/s.
