It's finally done
I am not due for an oil change yet, but thinking about doing it. Dealer I bought it from changed the oil, but that was about 3500 miles ago. Apparently my truck has an oil life monitor and the 5.3 with synthetic is designed to go about 7500 miles.
Debating on changing it anyway so I know for sure what is in there.
The manual says to use 5w-30. I have a case of mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic here in the garage but it is 10w-30. I can use it, but not recommended. For the cost of buying 6 more quarts I can just have the local dealer do it.
I use penzoil platinum 5w-30 as thats what I use in my escape so it was easy. Mine has an oil life monitor but I dont put enough miles on it thus I change it once a year.
I would go no more than 5,000 mile oil changes personally, regardless if your car has an oil life monitor.
You are right. It also appears that there really aren't any true Group IV synthetics, and they all use additives that are from Group III. Only the Group V oils seem to not have any crude based things in them.
I was going to go for 5000 then change it, but might do it sooner. After I get this stupid lean condition figured out I will change my oil.
Manual says 5w-30, but can use 10w-30 if I stay above 0*F. It doesn't get that cold here so might just just the oil I have in the garage. I have the needed 6 quarts of the Mobil 1 High Mileage Full Synthetic 10w-30.

Running a 10w-30 over a 5w30 has no upside except for 'cost' if you already have some of it.

Bought the oil for the XJ since it takes 10w-30. But I forgot I already had a case so changed the oil a couple months ago and still have a case. Might just keep it and change the oil in the XJ eventually. However I don't know when/if I will be driving the XJ again. Right now it is in the garage with the battery tender on it with no plans at all to drive it anytime soon.

Right you have it but seriously there's no reason to buy it again. Any engine that calls from 10w-30 will be better served by a 5w-30. There is no upside to a 10w-30 compared to a 5w-30.

Except if it doesn't get really cold where you are a 10w-30 will give you more startup oil pressure until the oil is warmed up than a 5w-30 will.

But it's directly related to the oil's resistance to flow specifically at a time where you want oil to flow more easily. 5w or even 0w is still a better choice for any climate than 10w.

I don’t think 5w is gonna change anything.
But I have about 1,000,000 memes about “what oil you running” we can throw in this thread.

Replaced the intake manifold gaskets, throttle body gasket, and 2 of the three clamps. Can't get my hands between the block and firewall and thread the bolts. Can get the bottom one if I remove the front driveshaft but can't get the bolt and hold the bracket in place. So I either need to find someone else to install it for me, at least get them started, or I need a 2nd pair of hands to hold the bracket in place while I thread the bottom one then try to get the top one from above. Preferably someone other than the wife that has some automotive knowledge.

Key fob has been slowly getting worse in terms of distance and how hard I have to press the key to get it to work. Replaced the battery and it did not help. Today it completely stopped working.
Thoughts?

Just get the Amazon fobs. That's what we have for the orange H3. I'm thinking of picking up a set for the silver H3 just because they're so cheap. It'll hold me over until I put the time into reinstalling the alarm that came with it.
