Maybe I can make a sculpture out of the broken spring.

I think I'm gonna cut a small piece and glue it to the dash with a little plaque that says "CHECK EVERYTHING" :p

Whenever you use forceful and overt verbal persuasion to try to convince others to see things your way, they're probably not listening to what you say, Instead they're looking for every error in you your logic and mistakes in your facts, all the while constructing counterarguments. Worse still, they don't merely believe you're wrong; they need you to be wrong in order to protect the status quo. I'm really hoping this doesn't turn into a hassle. 4WP shows some weird shit on their tracking page.

Qty ordered: 1
Qty shipped: 2

They definitely billed me for two. The UPS tracking number only shows a single 50 lb package coming from LA. The guy on the phone told me they were coming from different warehouses, so there should be a second package. I'm hoping the 2nd one just hasn't made it out the door yet or something.

I have ordered parts from 4wp before. Their tracking has always been weird.

So this is my old co-worker's truck. I have to admit I've been following his adventures since before we got the orange H3.

He goes on great adventures.

He also breaks a lot of shit.
I've broken cv axles. Tie rods. Wheel bearings. Coilovers. Rear shock mounts. Three front differentials. Two rack and pinions. Slashed tires. Broken drive shaft. Driver brake caliper. Didn't put my air filter back on correctly and it fell off in Moab and my whole truck shut down. Dents and scrapes. Broken rear window. Broken front window. Broken passenger mirror.

I think that's it. Maybe. At least for today. lol

I went down the rabbit hole of GM automatic transmissions and their various mutations last night.

My head still hurts.

Nothing too exciting right now. Just trying to educate myself.

I'm concerned with the mileage on this thing. So I'd like to consider a rebuilt trans. But I don't want to take this one out and send it off. I don't want the downtime. I'd rather buy a good core, and either rebuild that myself or send it off, then just swap it into the truck.

So I was looking into where I can get a core. Preferably at Pick N Pull prices, and preferably with upgrades. GM changes these damn things more often than I change my socks. It's ridiculous. Yearly or sometimes multiple times yearly internal changes, as well as model specific changes. The H3 V8 and Colorado V8 trans is it's own special little snowflake. There's no such thing as a 'standard' 4L60E. Finding a 4L65E or 70E is gonna be next to impossible. My best candidate for a junkyard core is a 60E from the 09-13 Savana van. I think that's got sensors that are compatible with mine, and I can have the guts upgraded to 65E/70E spec. At least all the 4L6x and 4L7x transmissions are the same physical size.

I need to do a lot more reading. It's kind of ridiculous.

Can you fit a 80e?

If so, I'd go that route.

80E is something like 4 inches longer. A 65 or 70 would be perfect if I ever go through with the L92 idea. Even if I don't, it would still be a great unit with factory reliability.

I can upgrade a 60E to 65 or 70 spec. I just need to find the right donor so I can make use of as many pieces as possible. This is all new territory for me.

Right now it's just a learning experience. I'm a long way off from actually buying anything unless I find something special hiding at PnP.

Never understood why GM had so many variants and why many were weak. Chrysler kept it simple with their v8’s.

The transmission doesn't suck. It's just old, like everything else on this truck. I'll happily throw a new or rebuilt bone stock 4L70E in this thing and call it good. I just have to find or build one.

I found something really, really weird in the service manual.

There's quite a few mentions of a 2.8L turbodiesel.

RPO LVC: Engine diesel, 4 cylinder, 2.8L CRI DOHC Turbo, Sento

WTF is Sento? I can't find anything about this engine, in any context. It's not like it's just an error in the listing. There's a ton of references to 'LVC' in the schematics, there's a whole section about diesel particulate filters, and there's a section on the data gateway module it has. But nothing on the engine itself. It apparently was supposed to be paired to a 4L70E transmission, RPO MD8. I can't find anything about that RPO either. All of the production 70E trannies used RPO M70.

I don't really care to do anything with it. It's just curious. Best guess I've got is it was for a foreign market, and never made it to production. Someone didn't clean out the references in the service manual.

The special internals on the 60e are to clear the special pan to clear the driveshaft.

Not sure but the 2.8L diesel GM used is made by VW Motori, which is in Cento Italy. Maybe it's a misspelling, or Americanized way of spelling Cento?
