I have a coworker who hauls around $100k worth of GPS equipment daily. He had one of the expensive roller covers and he got broken into. Guy trashed the lock and made off with all that equipment.
I think its almost a toss up with the vinyl top, roller, or flip up, as any of them can be compromised. The roller is tits, but it takes up bed room and says "hey ive got valuables in here. The Vinyl top is weak and only takes a sharp knife to puncture, but also only says i like looks and aerodynamics.
I might be in a slightly different boat. If i have stuff I want protected and not visible, then in put it in the ram boxes. Its under key and alarm and isn't quite as obvious. There are limitations to it thought too. They arent ginormous.
They look big enough for quite a bit to fit in there... Wouldn't mind having that option on my truck. The Avalanche had locking side cargo areas like that, but not on the alarm and nowhere near as large.
There's a powered version of my cover available, so that might be tougher to force open. Didn't figure I needed the powered version though - just one more remote to have on the keychain.
I'm sure it would be easy to just drill the lock on my cover if someone really wanted to get in.
I equal parts love and hate my 6.5' bed. It's great to have the extra room and be able to sleep in the bed if necessary, but it's turning radius is like an aircraft carrier.

If you ever buy a camper, or put a cover on it. Thats a great bed for camping in. Not bad for Home Depot trips either.
Yea tough call. Longer body makes for smoother rides and more cargo, but your correct about it being more difficult to park and maneuver. I erred on the short side and really like it, but i still cant park it in the garage. Grrrr!
Yeah but when you buy used you have to make some consessions. If I were specing my 13-14 F150 as if it was new I would have gotten a FX4 short bed 3.55 with 18" wheels.

3.73s, with chrome 20s neither is bad. For what I will mostly use this truck for the 3.73s are overkill and the style of these wheels is annoying. The spoke sticks out from the face of the wheel just enough to catch a curb, and Ford used a plastic chrome face over an aluminum wheel.

Yea, but those gears will be nice for towing those trailers you have lined up for it. I have the 3.55's in the Ram and I do like it for everyday driving. Great gas mileage. I havent towed anything heavy enough to notice a loss in power, but then again i also have the 8 speed.
Yea mine are the same chrome plastic cover over aluminum. Only logic i can see behind that is you might be able to purchase a new face, but hell if I know how you can remove the plastic piece. Those things are on tight!
6.5 bed in mine. Got the extended cab over the crew so wheel base isn't as long but get the bed. Plus it's just me and the wife. No need for the extra room inside. Hell the xj has had the back seat out for a long time.
