Hard part about not looking is all the ads on social media keep showing me stuff. And my wife is still "looking" and asking me to help look, so I see them all the time.

I know I should wait. Just was curious if worth getting a great deal now if something pops us so not rushing to get something I regret later is all.

I just finished up over 2500 miles and week with the 2020 F150 with the 5.0. I liked it, a lot, but I would not buy one. I don't like the transmission. It has the 10 speed and it was having issues. Felt like it was constantly hunting for the right gear and a few times felt like it was slipping or something. Really annoying.

That said, I really do prefer the interior of the 2015 plus. I spend some weeks upwards of 40+ hours behind the wheel of a 2012 or 2013 F150 and now that I have been in the 2020, the interior to me just feels/looks so much nice.

However, looking at the 2015+ that still uses the 6 speed and knowing that I could handle the XLT, but would prefer the Lariat or higher trim, I am looking at easily a $35k truck with under 100k and the 5.0, especially if a local one and not one that came from Canada.

Say I am lucky and find one for $30k. Based on a typical 6 year loan that payment would be in the upper $400s and would end up paying close to $34k when all said and done if I take the entire time to pay it off.

Right now, GM is offering 0 for 84 with deferred payments for 120 days. I can get a $40k ($50k truck with current incentives of around $10-12k off, plus I get employee pricing being a costco executive member and a recent grad) brand new truck and keep the payments about the same, have something with a factory warranty, and if I get it from the local CARR AUTO GROUP they throw in a lifetime powertrain warranty.

Of course all this is dependent on me getting a job soon and seeing exactly what my student loan payments will be, but it has been seriously thinking about getting either a Silverado or Sierra.

The service guy at the electric motor shop I worked for had similar complaints with the 5.0 F150 that replaced the 3.5TT F150 after he got hit and it totalled the truck. We have lots of hills and mountains out here and he said the 3.5 would just go, but the 5.0 was always gear hunting.

High miles and suicide doors. You will hate how noisy the cab is and how it will creak over curbs and bumps.

It's the high mileage that concerns me though. I'll think about it. But until I get a job I'm still leery of pulling the trigger.

Wife asked me today if I should just buy something cheap but decent enough to last the next 3-5 years. Our plan is to move by 2025 depending on market and jobs. At that point would like to be debt free other than house and student loans.

If I were to buy a truck just decent enough to last 5 years at most, that would be about 75k miles at most I'd assume.

Doesn't need to be dead reliable as we will keep the xj running as well for a 3rd vehicle in case it breaks down.

Then after we move, we know our house payment, student loans, etc we are going to try to adopt. That's when she will get something other than the soul.

That is when I would look into getting something longer term.

Thoughts on that?

I figured something mid to upper 100k miles and under around $8k. So early 2000s silverado 1500/2500 or f150/250.
