Why not a larger capacity or greater cca? I finally updated to an optima and like it. I run 2 light bars on top too.

Debated on it. But the current one is new and under warranty still. Free replacement if it goes bad.

How many amps is the current alternator? Won't going dual battery just have the same problem, but just take longer to get the issue to crop up?

90.

Anything bigger will require either grinding or relocation.

Under throttle there is no issues. Just at idle with heater going. Heater off, no issues.

Would hook up accessories to the 2nd battery and have a switch installed to go between the two as needed. That way it takes less strain off the single battery.

At least that is my thoughts.

Sounds like a cluster. Extra wiring, already no space under hood, alt not designed for load, another switch. Lots to go wrong. Clean up your contacts or get new wires to replace and see if that helps. Otherwise get a solid battery.

Have you monitored a noticeable voltage drop when you engage the blower motor? I'm inclined to believe the blower is getting tired and drawing more load than it should.

A second battery isn't going to do anything other than put more load on the alternator. The battery is mainly for starting, after that the alternator is what keeps everything going.

New contacts and wires not long ago.

Everything runs fine, even the sound system.

Until I turn the heater on. Then noticeable drop. Lights dim. Etc. It pulses up and down when heater engaged. Steady all other times.

Sounds like you might have a blower motor going out, or a bad ground then.

Really don't want to remove the blower motor. The bolts are a major pita for hands my size.

Will do a check of all grounds again this weekend and see if I see anything.

So was fucking around under the hood at work.

It happens every time the electric fan behind the radiator kicks on. It keeps cycling on and off. Each time it cycles the voltage drops.

So I'm assuming it's either the efan or something with the ac. Seems that the ac clutch might be cycling and causing the efan to kick on which causes the voltage drop?

Despite this, I can't stop driving this thing.

Picking up a CB for it this weekend I think. Then once I find some cheap enough used skid plates I will buy those as well.

Also, it is nice having people wave at me again. Not as much as the wrangler used to get, but other cherokee owners do seem to get excited about seeing others on the road. Get waves almost daily and compliments all the time from various people.

Never get that in a Volt.
