Toyota - Worth the Hype?

It doesn't in 07 I'm not sure about the current generation though. Stock for stock I'd suspect they just as capable. Biggest issue the Explorer has is the massive stock anti-roll bars. They are bigger than what's on the Sequoia and the Sequoia weighs almost 700lbs more.

Again. I suspect the Ford is tuned more for street duty.

I'm not disagreeing with you on that point. They are both primarily street vehicles. Neither are "off road trucks" in the same regard as a wrangler or factory kitted up specials like Toyota's current TRD pro line.

Stock for stock off road I suspect they would be able run similar trails. I'd probably be willing to be slightly more aggressive in the Sequoia since it comes with some factory skid plates, whereas the Explorer had none.

Just for shmits and giggles I looked up the off road specs:

Sequoia:
Approach angle 28 degrees
Departure: 20 degrees
Ground clearance 10.6"

Explorer:
Approach: 28.3 degrees
Departure: 23 degrees
Ground Clearance: 8.6"

How is the interior room in the larger stuff for toyota? Such as sequoia, highlander, tundra, etc. Specially interested in the shoulder room area. That is the hardest part for me to find something comfortable.

I find there is lots of interior room in my Sequoia if you don’t use the seat mounted armrest. Sequoia and Tundra are basically identical in the front seats, and the newer ones are even bigger. I’m obviously not as big in the shoulders or as tall as you are, so your experience might be different.

That’s way high especially for a early 1st gen. For that money you should be able to find a clean 05-07 or even a 100 series Land Cruiser.

That Sequoia is exactly what I have, with 30k less miles. I paid $9k for it. No way is that one worth almost twice the price.
