Garage floor

Anyone ever epoxy their garage floor? Prep? Kits? Things to look for?

Basically I want to do my main garage as it’s never been sealed. Prob acid wash it and then paint it. Then whatever I learn I want to do my vr4’s Basement. Upstairs prob. Grey/blue. I want to do black downstairs.

But would love to hear from anyone whose actually done this.

I did it in our main garage. Took a weekend to acid etch the concrete, apply the epoxy, sprinkle the chips, and put a clear top coat on it. Overall it has worked really well, with just small parts starting to come up now after 13 years. Unfortunately I forgot what brand I used - but it wasn't something from the local hardware store, it was ordered online.

If there's a chance of water or snow or anything like that getting on the floor when people are walking on it, I'd suggest using a lot of chips so that the surface isn't smooth. It does get quite slippery in areas with less chips.

I read I need to concrete etch it as well. There is also an additive to make it less slippery along with the chips. I wish I could see a sample before I do it. I deff want to put a clear coat on it after reading up on it. It will see water from dripping off the vehicles. And with a little one I don’t want it slippery.

My buddy has it done to his shop. It is awesome. If there is an oil or coolant spill it cleans right up. You don't have to worry about it soaking into the concrete and leaving a stain.

He also has in floor heat. In the winter you can walk around the shop in a tshirt.

Radiant in floor is by far the best thing you can do. Any water/snow brought in will dry quickly.

Oh, it's ridiculous. I was there when he pulled a car in that had been sitting out in the snow. There was easily 4 inches of snow on it and it might have been an hour later and the snow and water from it melting was gone.

My friend and neighbor did it to his house back in Cleveland. He was adamant about it being worth paying the extra for a high quality industrial product and not use off the shelf product as it wont last. The garages we had there had concrete with sealant mixed in so he did some serious etching to get it ready and prepped. Final result was really nice though.
