New Cannonball record: 31 hours 4 mins

Post by bgh318 »

Hey guys, I saw this on AOTS last night and hadn't heard about it so I thought I'd post it up.

"Alex Roy and Dave Maher have set a new record for driving across the US. They covered 2,795 miles from New York to Los Angeles in 31 hours and 4 minutes, beating the previous record of 32 hours and 7 minutes. This was Roy’s third attempt at the illegal (and unsafe) “Cannonball Run”. "

Here's a long article from Wired:

http://www.wired.com/cars/coolwheels/magazine/15-11/ff_cannonballrun?currentPage=6

Averaged over 90 mph I think. Craziness.

Roy is the man. He's done some pretty good races.

Ah I had meant to post this yesterday as well, it was an awesome and long read. I cannot imagine doing that in such a time, that is one hell of an accomplishment.
I thought they said his copilot was British though? Every time I heard him speak in the videos he sounded completely American to me.

I thought the same thing, but there is a hint of an Welsh/english/irish accent in a couple of his words. Or they're lying and I'm hearing things :p

Page 6, DOH!
That was still a good read though.

Awesome, that cannonball run is something I'd love to do one day.

Hey now :p
More like I'd have it all mapped out and continually calculating so that I can BEAT the record, then get into an accident passing cars at 160MPH. :D

I wonder how quickly someone on a bike could do it.

wouldn't a bike have to pull over for gas much more often?..even with much better gas mileage, wouldn't the high-speed and small tank mean more pit-stops?
That would have to hurt overall time, i'd think.

That is true.
My R1 gets about 160 miles on a tank.
Backpack full of fuel also?
Still isn't gonna get close to an M5's range on a tank.

What would a Busa get, I wonder if there's any way to make the tank a little larger?

Bike would not be faster. Too many fuel stops and no way you can keep it up for 31 hours. Way too tiring and exhausting.
