Not only that you'd be looking for a new car at exactly the same time as a house. That's is a terrible time to be looking for a car.

I'd hold off an getting something until after the house. Turn in the Volt if I was to go that route then just drive the Jeep.

Ended up taking the Volt in for a problem with the voltec system. Was covered under warranty. Still should get the axle nut replaced as the warranty on that runs out in 4 months. Also pretty sure the rear right suspension is going out. Going to take a look at that today.
With the warranty running out in April I am really debating more and more on seeing if I can't unload it and get into a lease on something that is close enough in payments that gets a decent enough MPG that it makes sense. That way everything is covered again.
Doesn't need to be a Volt. But needs good warranty, comfortable, premium like interior, and good MPG.
Anyone know of any good lease options out there right now? Or even good purchase options?
Currently pay $320 a month for the Volt, plus about $30 a month in electric to charge it. I drive about 11-12k a year right now, so figure a lease payment + fuel for under $400 a month would be ideal if possible. Can do more, but would like to save money as well since looking to buy a new house in 2020 or 2021.

Lease a Prius? Had a few of them, never had a problem. Not the most "upscale" car, but comfortable and you can fit more cargo than you think in the back.

I am surprised how well I fit in the Volt.
I think tonight if the rain holds off, or tomorrow, I am going to stop by Carmax, get an appraisal on the Volt, and sit in a bunch of stuff. See if I can narrow it down to what I find comfortable. That will help. Looks like a ton of places are doing lease deals right now.

This is just to get some ideas and thoughts down
If can't get enough for the volt I will keep it until the warranty expires in April and keep paying extra on it until it is at the level I'll accept. Reviews are saying they are pretty damn reliable up to and over 100k. At 60k now. Just am tired of working on stuff and crap like that so a warranty is nice in case something does go wrong.
If I can get enough these are what I'm thinking.
2018 or 2019 Volt Premier. What I want the most but might not be able to get it at the price I want for a lease.
2018 or 19 subaru crosstrek. I need to sit in one again. Haven't in a few years. Benefits of awd, ground clearance, and about 30 mpg average. Cons are its a subaru and I don't like them very much. Reviews say new one feel quicker and handle well.
2018/19 Kia Niro. Good mpg, especially for the plug in hybrid version. Cheap. Reliable. Good warranty. Sit higher. Cargo space. Etc. Cons are pretty damn boring car.
Will look into other cars but if i can get a good lease on a good mpg crossover or small suv I might go that route simply for comfort.

Need a reliable comfortable good mpg car to replace the volt. Looking at a lease. Then around time lease is up we plan on hopefully moving.

I'd have a Crosstrek right now if they had about 30 more HP. Otherwise I absolutely love how they drive, but they are slow as shit.

Yes I wouldn't recommend a first generation Crosstrek at all. The new Subaru global platform is truly amazing to drive. The old ones are garbage.
Also the 6spd manual is slower and worse than the CVT.

I will have to drive on and see. Top speed isn't important to me, but quick acceleration is. Do lots of merging and on ramps going to/from the gym so being able to accelerate quickly is one thing I like about the Volt. High torque with that electric engine.
Oof - just checked, 0-60 times is about 2 seconds slower in the Crosstrek. Might be a deal breaker for me. Need to have at least some speed.

I'll say this they don't feel as slow as they actually are, but a lot of that is the way Subaru maps the throttle. Basically once you get past 3/4 throttle with the pedal you're basically at WOT at teh throttle body.

The 0-60 is not what I am really worried about it. It is more the 30-60 stuff. I will have to test drive one to see, but I have a feeling that is won't really work. Everything else about it seems great, but if I have to live with it for 3 years I don't want to regret it.
All of this might be a moot point anyway if I can't get enough for the Volt.

Spoke with wife. Not going to buy. Only either lease or keep current one. We will see what they say about the 2018 one I listed above

If you could get a crosstrec with a wrx motor I would buy one today. They are just a hair faster than my crv and my crv is horribly slow. Even the newest ones are only a little better but if you never road in the first ones you wouldnt know they were any better, just slow.
Wish you could special order them with a wrx engine.

Mentioned it in shout, but going to see tomorrow if they can get that one with the brown leather to a price I am happy with. Started doing some stuff yesterday but the rep I was working with is off today. Going to be back tomorrow and get me some numbers. Hopefully it doesn't sell today. If the numbers are good will go get it on Friday.
