Car question.....from my dad. (You know your curious)

Post by DCIV »

“The Chevy Service Department did the following BG Treatments all at the same time to my car.
BG EPR, BG MOA, BG44K, BGCF5, and BG Air Intake System Cleaner.
The next day the catalytic converter died!
Should all these be done at the same time? Did they kill my Cat?”

What do you think?

Whenever you use forceful and overt verbal persuasion to try to convince others to see things your way, they're probably not listening to what you say, Instead they're looking for every error in you your logic and mistakes in your facts, all the while constructing counterarguments. Worse still, they don't merely believe you're wrong; they need you to be wrong in order to protect the status quo. And since the final judge exists in their own head, you lose every time. - The Influencer
Is the level of bullshit you have to go through to change things in a direction you want, less than than or equal than the level of current bullshit?

Nobody should harm your pet. That’s taking things a bit too far.

Why did they do all these "treatments"? Was there something wrong with the car?

Let's see...

EPR = Engine Performance Restoration - supposedly removes deposits on pistons, rings, etc.
MOA = Removes "sludge" from the oil system?
44K = Removes fuel system deposits
CF5 = Cooling system flush?
Air Intake = ??

The things that would burn through the exhaust quickly would maybe be the EPR, 44K and the Air Intake cleaning. If there's a lot of gunk in there, I'd probably not do them all at once, as coating the catalytic converter in crud and oil and such could cause catalytic converter failure.

...but I don't think I would do any of those BG treatments on any of my cars. Where does all the crud it supposedly cleans go? Do they put this stuff in the oil or wherever it goes for a short period and then flush it all out and put fresh fluids in? I just don't know what this sort of service entails.

It sounds like a lot of unnecessary bullshit to me.

I know nothing about the epr but the air intake cleaner definitely could have contributed and likely did cause the failure.

We get a few cars in every month after another shop did an intake cleaning and the cat failed shortly after

Cadillac SRX 150,000 miles on original spark plugs. Took it to the dealer complaining about gas mileage. Asked for spark plugs and tune up. $700 later I need new catalytic converters!

I've seen it happen to other people on both forms.
