Advice needed, please.

Post by -that- guy »

Well, I am at 121,031 miles. My belts squeal, and my turbo's don't hold boost. I am thinking about taking it into a dealership to get the full 120k service done on it when I go home on leave. I really don't have the time or inclination to do it myself, considering it is wet and cold here almost every day during the winter.

Would it really make a difference to take it into the dealership or doing it myself? If i take it in, are they not going to touch it because I have egr blockoff plates, a performance air filter and an aftermarket BOV?

Money isn't really an issue, time is more of a concern. It's my only car, so a DD. What do you guys think?

I doubt your bov and air intake will be a problem. The cost is going to be crazy though. Its also not going to help your turbos hold boost. You might want to check for leaks, via pressure test. Your timing belt and stuff deff needs to be changed. The thing I like about when you do it yourself, 1) you know its done right, 2) you know real mitsu parts were used, 3) you dont have to use so much lube on your ass. Heck take it to a local guy who you can pay him half and he will do it before the dealership.

There really is nothing special in the timing belt change on this car versus any other DOHC V6, if you know a good local mechanic I would at least take it there to save the money that the dealership is going to charge you (>$1000 probably).
