AEM would be more flexible at solving any other problems you run into...

The biggest problem is still that damn drive by wire throttle. I can't convert the 3.8 truck intake into a cable throttle without extensive fab work, and I can't weld aluminum.
I don't know why I'm so hung up on that damn truck intake. I could use the 3.5 Montero/Sorento intake like Steve did, and I wouldn't have to cut my hood either.
I need to figure out if an Evo 9 AEM can handle the current draw from the MIVEC solenoids.

It would be a lot easier to come up with a radiator solution than to engineer an entire ECU to work with that.
I mean I get the dozen of other reasons you would want to run it, but consider the simplicity of just having the motor run without having to worry about chasing ECU electrical or tuning challenges.
Thats why I never persued reverse engineering the stock Miata ECU vs just going to a tried and true stand alone that came with a decent base tune.

If I get in a pinch, it'd be even easier to keep the stock mechanical fan and just make a shroud.

The older ECUs were done in house, but the CANbus stuff is Mercedes.
I'm going to take a crack at disassembling the flash software itself. I need to do that anyway.

I just might know what's going on. This ECU has two processors in it. The main one, and the electronic throttle watchdog.
I wonder if the watchdog chip is functioning as a gatekeeper for the main CPU? That's why none of my logs match up with the code in the main CPU. I'm authenticating to the watchdog CPU, and once I've sent the correct key, it forwards packets to the main CPU.
Like all stubborn problems, it can be solved with money. Or explosives, but we're not to that point. Yet
