Yeah I don't know but I distinctly remember it being on my shopping list, and then immediately wiping off my list because of reliability concerns based on the research I did.

We researched the CX7 to death. It's as solid as they come. The engine is the same as the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6, but it's got a slightly smaller turbo. So it trades some peak power for lower end torque. Which makes sense since the CX7 is bigger.

245hp, 258 lb-ft vs 270hp and 280 lb-ft in the Speed 6.

They seem to be pretty solid from what I've seen as long as it's taken care of and not over boosted by ham fisted idiots.

My understanding from the Mazda techs I knew when it came out was it was a solid well built system. Who knows now.

I'm not really a fan of Subaru awd. The manuals are a VCU and the autos use solenoid activated clutch packs. Nothing special except I found with my Forester it took forever to respond to wheel slippage. My 97 legacy gt (manual) was much better in the snow than the 99 Forester (auto) with similar tires.

The best? No. They offer some of the most capable AWD systems in their brackets though.

Marketing? Yes. To the extent of Fram oil filters? No not hardly.

In my experience Subaru's AWD systems react much faster than other's. I've also seen enough independent tests showing Subaru's AWD system tends to deal with severe situations better than most other systems in their class. Many other systems have a 'primary drive axle.' If that axle loses grip on a hill you may be stuck. Subaru is among a few mfg's who's system can deal with this situation.

Yup, that's one of the ones I was thinking of. The true Quattro setups are better than even the best Subaru setup (from what my more hard core Subaru friends tell me is an 05 STi).

yeah mine could to, but i'm not sure the Borg Warner Torque on Demand system is 'AWD' in the same way. It's kind of splitting hairs though.

It doesn’t what it does need is good ground clearance. My driveway sucks. Usually Subaru’s have decent ground clearance. The escape has good approach angles for where the wheels/bumpers are placed.

Your ST is actually on the list of cars I would buy with a turbo but would need to drive it home and see how it pulled into my driveway.

To give an idea, if I position the Humvee correctly then one wheel will free spin it has that much elevation change in such short distance. My wife’s edge handles it, my crv handles it....I think a forester would, but doubt an sti would.
