Before i got into the 3s i was into starions and wanted badly to turbo a mighty max, which at that time had an NA version of the starion motor. would be a very straight forward swap
never got around to it, the trucks were still fairly valuable at the time
Yea, there are quite a few guys who have turbocharged the I4's in them. There is a youtube vid of a guy running 10's with his. Didnt look like he had to work that hard. Then again that trim weighs in at about 2,500 lbs.
As far as i can tell nobody has successfully done this with the V6 4x4.
As far as I'm aware, those were never sold in Japan. So you'd be looking for Australia or New Zealand.
Technicalities. :ick: Greg likes the 2nd gens best anyways.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
you all are funny. I say once a month we find an obscure vehicle and see how it can be modified from other vehicles, using stock parts, of the same maker.

According to Wikipedia the 2nd gen MM was sold in Japan as the Strada starting in 91, through 96.

Slight change of topic.
Was combing through CL today and found a 95 Montero SR just 3 blocks away. Seized the motor. I just went over in the pouring rain and slapped a 22mm socket and a breaker bar on it. It took me grabbing the bumper with my hands and using my foot under the engine bay to attempt to move it. First 5 min were unsuccessful. Then...It broke loose. Spins like normal now. If all goes well I might pick it up tomorrow for $100.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max

I think I'd rather just get an old Dakota or Ranger.

Well done.
Reminds me of Mike M., VR3.9, he went to pick up a first gen VR-4 parts car for under $1,000. The car was in great condition, but the engine was shot and the owner just wanted to unload it. He went over, tried to start the car, noticed something familiar.
Bought the car, swapped in a spare ECU and drove it away.
Still the best running 3S he owns.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
That story is too reminiscent of my TSI.
Car died. Needed money so I sold it for $3000 based on getting it running. Sent ECU out to be rebuilt by AV(not so)Pro. Got ECU back, car still wouldn't run. Returned deposit I took on car and found a buyer and sold as is, not running for $2000.
Guys picked car up with trailer, called me next day and said they popped an ECU in and it purred like a kitten.
So not only was I out the $1000 extra I could have had, I was also out the $350 (or whatever it was at the time) for the ECU to be "rebuilt."
I am still sour about that whole situation and to this day I say FUCK AVPro.

Thanks John. I've had a very long and interesting day today. I've never purchased two cars in two different states in the same day. The MM drove home pretty problem free. She has some wiggles and some one way advanced the timing. Should be a fun project though.
The Montero was a pain. Either the motor got tight again or the starter has given up the ghost. It will click but won't budge. Ended up having to drag it up on the trailer with the jeep with near flat tires. Then had to push it up and off into my side yard. Just barely finished. Oh and worked nearly all day too. It's been a while since I've felt this exhausted.

Just for you Cooperdoodles...
The MAX. Excuse the ice on most of these as it was quite chilly this morning.

I was pretty impressed how well the interior looks. Its lesser quality and most I looked into were trashed.

The SR

147k miles of frozen potential

The inside is pretty good looking except for the seats. They are pretty ragged. The drivers seat back isn't even attached on the one side. Might have to break out the welder.

Headed to Arizona today, so I wont get much time to play until Sunday night. The itch is strong.

Stoked to see if the 3500 SR motor mounts will just make that engine fit into the MM with little/no effort.

Yea, I would think so. That or the stock MM ones should work. I mean isnt the SR block riddled with motor mount locations? I think my only obstacle currently is the oil pan and the brake master cylinder. The DOHC heads might make for some difficulty. Still deciding if I want to put this motor in, or just grab a 98 Montero motor, harness, ECU and call it good. The SOHC heads on the 98 would help to alleviate master cylinder issue.
Plus I could use the SR block for other ventures like the MIVEC build. Jeff would approve im sure. I still have an extra 75 crank.

They kind of sit a bit tall and they feel very heavy. Not to mention they are tore up and require work. Might have to pass.

Re: Mitsubishi Mighty Max
Pretty cool. That truck looks pretty tough. I like it.
I'm still really tempted to go look at that $2k '03 Montero instead of getting snow tires for the Audi. I wonder if they'd give me ~$1000 in trade on my Focus?
The Montero is priced at around 50% of KBB. I wonder if it's messed up or if they're just trying to unload it.

Yea sure seems pretty tough for what it is. I'm sure you will enjoy the montero. Well minus the ecu for that year. Lol
Then you can start looking for the harder to find limited slip diffs or the SR air locker.
