Then, for the sake of argument, whats to stop Dodge from helping improve the cherry platform for US standards.

They already have a platform that will pass US crash testing. From that standpoint it's a very stupid move for Dodge to use that platform. However, if they're doing this to try and get a foothold in the south asian market than it would be a pretty good move, assuming things work out.

They're doing it because it's cheaper to build the car there and boat it over than to build it in the US.

It's the same reason GM bought Daewoo and uses them to build cars like the Aveo.

Thats a big reason I think, and what Jeff said below... its probably cheap.

I'm not saying its a great step forward, or even a step forward... but it at least makes a bit of sense.

But if the next Charger incarnation has "Made in China" stamped underneath, I'll riot. You thought I flipped when they put a Ram front-end on the thing? Wait'll they turn it into a rice-burner. :p
Most likely its going to have a made in Canada sticker on it ;)
I don't know what their fascination is with FWD cars.
Parts are more interchangeable with other economy models and more practical for year-round driving. It sucks for performance, but I doubt Cerebus cares about that so much.

But its it keeps the look and it decently built it might do well. Hell if the employee discount is decent I might trade the SL in on one.
Trade? How much are you looking to get? My guess is that it wouldn't be worth trading in an SL.

Never never trade with a dealer you always get ripped off.

Go test drive a Solstice or MX5. Tell us how comfortable it is.

I dont get discounts for those cars.

If they keep the look, Its drives nice, I fit ;) and its passes crash tests I dont see the differance between buying a dodge built in china and one built in Japan.

All I'm saying is, the Solstice is a small car even by my standards. If the Demon is on a similar scale, you may have issues.

Then I won't get one. I do hope to be smaller by the time this comes out. I hope to get back in the 250 range. That may not help but for a DD a smaller car can be workable.

The SL is still nice but its 10 years old and will have to be replaced at some point. As a daily driver it will have to be replaced at some point. If the Demon is not it I'll see what I can find when the time comes.
